Anti D Injection Experiences

Having my anti D Injection on the 18th as I'm rhesus negative. I'm a bit needle phobic but so much better now I'm older.

Did anyone get any strange side effects or anything? I haven't really been told much about it, other than it's a blood product. The midwife also said something along the lines of "the needle is so big, it really should go in your bum, but it's done in your arm" - helpful!

Also, do you think I'd be okay having my flu jab the same week? Already had whooping cough vaccine.

I was expecting the needle to be big but honestly it's not even that big. Not gonna lie to you though mine stung. I had mine in my arm but some people have it in the bum or thigh as it's supposed to hurt less in them places. Try not to worry about it too much because in reality you are going to go through childbirth and I'm sure thats gonna hurt a hell of a lot more 🤣 thats what i told myself anyway lol

ToastyFingers · 02/10/2018 08:25

If the babies father is confirmed rhesus negative too you don't have to have it, I didn't.

LBNM19 · 02/10/2018 08:25

I'm pregnant with my 4th and had it at least 10 times. It's absolutley fine. I'm not scared of needles but I just don't look. All my children have resus postive blood. They tested me this time so they don't give if you baby is also negative but he is postive again. It's to with rhesus disease. X

Forgot to add that it has no side effects at all maybe a sore arm for some people. And i don't see why you can't have your flu jab too just ask first in case.

Kitkat2018 · 02/10/2018 08:28

I had mine in my upper thigh, to be honest it wasn't that bad and I had to ill effects.

sparkles212 · 02/10/2018 08:28

I've had two this pregnancy, didn't hurt at all and I never had any arm ache after. But...it does give some a sore arm afterwards. Pros outweigh the cons however!

I'm the same op, really struggle with needles but got better during pregnancy as it's hard to avoid them! Anti D was fine - just don't look as I think the anticipation is probably the worst thing. I always just apologise to whoever is doing the injection/drawing blood and hop on my phone. I had it in my arm not my bum by choice and honestly it was no worse than flu jab

Cheeseandapple · 02/10/2018 08:30

Also no side effects but was asked to sit in th waiting room for 10 mins xxx

skeete · 02/10/2018 09:08

I went quite dizzy after mine, I remember them making me lie down on the little bedBlush other than that I think it was fine afterwards. Had less effects than the flu jab!

KitKatCHA · 02/10/2018 09:16

It was fine, I've had it a fair few times now, stings a bit but nothing major and over in seconds.

Whatwaswrongwiththatusername · 02/10/2018 09:25

It was many (many, many...) years ago now that I had mine. I am negative and my child is positive. I had one fairly early on during pregnancy, after a bleed, and then another at the normal time. I had mine in my bum! Was a little bit worried it would hurt but having already been in for an op and being generally poked about - especially before the second one - I definitely got to the point of thinking 'oh god, another needle...in the bum...there goes my nonexistent dignity!'
You'll honestly be fine, I don't recall it hurting particularly, and it really is over very quickly. As I say, my dignity was hurt more by that point, not my arse! And no side effects!

Lauren83 · 02/10/2018 09:34

I have had it 6 times and it's fine your arm just feels a little heavy as it goes in

QueenOfMyWorld · 02/10/2018 09:56

I was fine and had it loads during pregancu

KnucklestheEchidna · 02/10/2018 10:42

I'm also Rhesus Negative and have my Anti-D booked in for the end of this month. Needles don't bother me but I'm worried about this one. I asked my midwife about it at my last appointment and she said it can make some people feel a bit funny and they usually ask you to sit outside for a bit before leaving to make sure you're okay. I'm one of those people who had a funny turn during the Glucose Tolerance Test as well so I'm hoping it won't be as bad as that!

Athers666 · 02/10/2018 10:47

I had mine last week. It honestly was fine, it was just a sharp scratch sensation and mine didn't hurt at all afterwards or the next day. Good luck with yours OP x

Embobolina88 · 03/10/2018 07:25

They’re a bit painful but nothing too bad! You’ll be fine. No side effects, my arm was a little bit achey after but nothing major. You’ll be used to it by the end of your pregnancy! Good luck xx

colourful86 · 03/10/2018 08:54

I had mine a few weeks ago, had it with last pregnancy too.
I just look the other way and count to 50 quick in my head and it's done.
They have to do it after birth as well but by that point you probably won't give a shit about a small needle Smile
