Sudden lack of movement 23 weeks pregnant

Hi,
I’m 23 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Ever since 18 weeks i got the “fluttering” feeling which turned into kicks at 21 weeks. Last week, my partner managed to feel the first “proper” kicks and he has been a very active boy since the first movement. For the past 2 days now, i have been recieving little kicks, no where near as often or as strong as before and it’s beginning to worry me a little now. Is this normal? Or what should i do? Do weaker kicks signal that something is wrong or am i just worrying for the sake of it?

Thanks guys

Ring your midwife or maternity assessment unit. It could easily be that baby is in a different position and nothing to worry about, also some people don't feel movement at this stage, but I'd ask for advice just to be sure.

If you are EVER worried about your baby consult your midwife. My son is now 13 weeks old and I didnt feel his kicks much compared to my eldest daughter who treated me like a punching bag (lol) I went to the hosp because the gp/dr didnt seem to give me the answer of reasurance I required.
I called the maternity department at the hosp and explained about my concerns they told me to come in as soon as I could for a scan to check turned out the placenta was at the front reason for not feeling him so much. So my advise to you is to maybe do the same call the maternity department at the hospital you will be giving birth at and they will make sure all is well and once you see baby is ok it will put your mind at rest Smile NEVER leave anything your worried about dont worry about what other people think or if you think your worrying over nothing or wasting time there job is to look after you ! Good luck when you do deliver!! Xxx

Always ring someone if unsure however for some peace of mind - I've been advised there's no need to keep track of kicks etc until 27/28 weeks as this is when it becomes regular. Best wishes

Please call your midwife or assessment unit, better to call and it all be fine than the alternative.

You should have been told to ring triage/your midwife for any reduced movements.

Stormwhale · 01/10/2018 13:43

My local hospital does not take any action for reduced movements until 30 weeks. However I would just check that with your midwife to be sure.

Never ever a wasted call to me imo.

Lots of people saying to call, which is great advice, but just to give you some peace of mind... Movements aren't tracked until 28 weeks. Many people can't even feel them at all at your stage. I had similar worries and spoke to midwife who said baby just has lot of space right now and can wiggle into places where u just can't feel them as much, which is why they don't ask you to track until 28 weeks. I am now 26 weeks and whilst I can defo feel baby everyday, there are days where it feels stronger than other days. Some days I am sure baby is facing the back as the kicks feel more internal, other days my whole stomach moves as he kicks outwards!

I had this at about 27 weeks and I rang the hospital, they got me in and did tests etc... everything was fine but they said I was definitely right to calll as they take it very seriously. Maybe baby just turned around so u can’t feel as much but get it checked u will be able to sleep better xxxxx

I had this at 24 weeks, I had been feeling consistent movement for about 4 weeks at similar times each day. I hesitated for ages about going into the hospital as I knew I was still in the time frame for people not even feeling moment but I went in the end as I just couldn’t settle. Everything was absolutely fine and she must have just changed position but the doctor and nurse were great and reassured me that I had done the absolute right thing and if I ever experienced the same to come straight back. It’s always worth a phone call or visit as even if baby is all fine you will never be convinced until you see them or hear a heartbeat.

*movement

I was late feeling my baby's movements (around 23 weeks before i knew for sure it was baby) I was about 25 weeks with my first RM concerns. I didn't think my maternity unit at the hosp would take me seriously at that early stage but they got me to go straight in. Everything was beating away fine that day then I felt silly but I'm so glad I went, just for my own sanity. So many times since I've told the midwives I feel silly for calling when everything turns out to be ok and they give me a right lecturing about the importance of calling.

Please call them, I know some hosps wont see people until a certain stage in pregnancy but talking to them for reassurance can help if nothing else x
