Please bare with me im still trying to get my head round things, very emotional, hormonal and well not really knowing where the hell to start.

Im 33+5 and long story short i was very poorly, midwives and docs ignored me telling them i wasnt right - and eventually my GP recognised that i was really ill and basically im currently stuck in UCLH hospital in London - i live in essex so quite far from home too.
Ive had blood transfusions and all sorts...its long winded BUT yeah im really not well.
Anyways they are considering delivering baby early, im not ready. In anyway shape or form, physically, mentally or emotional -
Bag isnt packed. Home isnt ready. Feeling really off the scale emotional and shit.
I am yet to kinda establish when/if theyre gonna deliver early. But -, i literally have no idea what im gonna need to pack for an early baby.
The fact that hes gonna be early but i dont know how early really doesnt help.
Someone please help me prepare.
To make it worse - i wont be packing it
...my husband will be because im stuck in hospital lol.
So in simple terms - what to pack for an early baby.....
Sorry for ranting off and talking poop.
Any help very much appreciated. X

For the baby - small nappies (size 0) and small vests and sleepsuits (early baby size). Hats. Muslins. For a baby delivered at this gestation you actually don't need to worry too much about things not being 'ready' because you'll likely be in hospital for at least a week to 10 days post delivery, and once baby is here you'll have plenty of time to sort the rest.

For yourself - exactly the same stuff as with a full term delivery.

Really don't panic! Good luck x

I was in a similar position, in hospital at 32 weeks but actually DS not born until 35. Get some pampers micro nappies, go to John Lewis and buy a pack each of tiny baby and early baby sleepsuits and vests. They will let you exchange them/return them if you don’t use them. Waterwipes, a couple of tiny hats, muslins. For you - maternity pads, couple of packs of cheap black knickers in large size, comfy clothes, lansinoh cream and breast pads if planning to BF/express.

Ill rustle up a list for hubby at some point today.
I hadnt even packed normal bag yet -, had planned on doing it last week but was feeling so crap that i didnt.

In addition to what PP listed this thread discussed all the hospital bag essentials. Maybe get a couple of dummies in case baby is in neo natal unit a few days. Good luck to you and baby!

Good luck, hope all goes well. Flowers

Mothercare do free next day delivery if you order premature baby clothes.

Asda do a fantastic premature range. They came in very handy.

I would also cut a piece of muslin into three small squares. Start wearing one in your bra and give one to your partner to keep close. Once the baby is here you can rotate all three pieces so that you all have each other's scent. ICU nurses recommended this to my family. It was a lovely way to keep each other close.

I hope everything goes well for you all.

I was in your position and it was really tough being stuck in hospital not being sure what is happening.
Our hospital provided nappies, cotton wool and cream until my DH could get to the shops to buy them and they also had lots of clothes and blankets too so don’t worry too much at the moment.
I would get your DH to get a packet of micro nappies and the smallest baby clothes he can find but leave them in the packet so that if you’re baby isn’t early or is bigger then they can always be swapped.
Also get your family on it if you can; when my DD did arrive early DH got nappies while the rest of our family sorted out finding smaller baby clothes and helping to sort out our home ready for her. I also chose a lot of it online and let them sort out getting it delivered etc

I can't offer much practical advice but just wanted to say Thanks sorry you are poorly. Try to focus on the fact that you are in the right place for you and your baby to receive the care you need. Give your husband a list and do your best to stay positive. Best of luck to you and your baby.

Hat! Please don’t forget the hat. My daughter was born early and I was stuck in hospital. I asked my consultant what should my husband bring and she said hat, don’t forget the hat. Premature babies lose heat quickly. Good luck. You are in good hands. There’s a big Primark from where you are. Ten minutes walk barely. You husband can buy everything that’s needed from there. Re nappies I found size 0 too big myself.

Moorty · 30/09/2018 16:49

Anyway the hat was too big. The hospital gave us hat clothes blankets etc. Don’t worry
