I have just been booked for my first screening appointment which will be when I am approx 11 weeks pregnant (currently 7+5). I saw my GP last week as I had really bad sickness which he put down to a virus and also saw my nurse practitioner 3 days a go as I was bleeding slightly. I do suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis and also had a miscarriage last year. Nobody seems in too much of a rush to have me scanned to check if everything is ok? The nurse said "if the bleeding is a miscarriage, there is nothing we can do anyway so just go home and see what happens - go to A&E if it gets heavy"

So I feel a bit in limbo at the moment that there seems to be no urgency....

If you have bleeding after 6 weeks you should be referred to the early oregnancy clinic. My local one is a walk in service - so maybe google and see if yours is or go back to your gp and ask for referral?

Very much depends on your area. I had bleeding at 6 weeks and was told to take a test in a week or go to a&e if it was heavy or very painful. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do. Whether they scan, take bloods or you just wait, it'll be a week before it's clear.

I asked if I could be referred for a scan but she said she couldn't do it. My main concern was that when I miscarried last time I started to hemorrhage and had to be rushed via ambulance for an emergency operation to stop the bleeding, I lost 4 pints of blood. I told her all this but she still didn't seem overly concerned

It seems unsympathetic but there really is nothing that can be done. If they took you into hospital, you would just sit in the waiting area, not the most comfortable place for you. Until there is an issue that requires intervention, you really are better at home with your dp.

If I were you I'd pay for a private early scan just for reassurance. If you do get a large amount of blood like before though you should go straight to a&e.

@jcrussell86 if you google your local hospital and early pregnancy clinic it should be fairly clear what their guidance is.

For example I just randomly picked Manchester and googled and this is their hospital website:

mft.nhs.uk/saint-marys/services/gynaecology/emergency-gynaecology/

So you would get a scan from them. Check your local guidelines

I'm in Bradford, I can't really find any useful information, I suppose I will have to wait
