Hi all, my hair is naturally all grey and quick to grow so it's difficult to do nothing while pregnant - I was using a spray on touch-up to avoid full dye but decided the fumes were not that great either, and booked into a v expensive 100 pct vegetable dye salon at 8+ wks. Colour was great but feel it must have been quite strong even though veggie, they kept it on for longer than you would chemical dye. Anyway now I keep worrying about it, woke up in panic tonight. Midwife said it was OK if all-veggie (after I had been) but not very convincingly. Could do with reassurance / suggestions for next time?

You're allowed to use bog standard hair colour on your hair when pregnant so stop panicking. It has not been shown to be harmful, just keep the room well ventilated

Nothing wrong with dying your hair in pregnancy if the room is well ventilated. Personally I'd avoid especially strong products like bleach but that's up to every individual. The only issue is that the hormones can stop the colour taking as much.

It's totally safe.

If you wanted to stick for more natural dyes, these are quite good

Just to add that I have my roots done and the hairdressers and the main issue seems to be how your scalp and hair react to dye during pregnancy. Mine actually took better, but I know some people found the dye didn't take as well, or it made their scalp itch much more than usual. You might want to do a patch test, even if you've used the same dye for years.

Thanks all. I know I shouldn't panic but felt a bit bad not waiting for T2 - would have looked a real state at work for a few weeks though! @RosiePosies had seen the NHS info but found it was fudging a bit ("It's fine but many women choose...." Etc). Feeling better about it now though thanks.

To be honest @op every bit of NHS or GP advice about pregnancy is exactly the same! They always have to put a disclaimer in there somewhere. Glad you feel a bit better though. it's anxious business this baby making malarkey.
