Pregnancy pillow - PGP

Hi all,

I have really bad pelvic girdle pain on one side. I have 1 x pregnancy pillow from Argos which isn't great, I then bought a straight one from Mothercare which is okay but it doesn't give me an amazing sleep (does that exist in pregnancy??)

I wondered if any of the more expensive pillows are worth it and if anyone could recommend a specific one? I've seen a few U shaped ones which are more expensive and a jojo maman Bebe one?

Thanks xXx

Following as I’ve been doing some research for this too

I was suffering really badly with pelvic pain a few months ago. After reading lots of recommendations, I bought the BBHugMe and it is amazing! Very expensive but it’s been brilliant and I haven’t suffered from any pelvic pain since the day it was delivered.

@Shingles443 oh gosh, they are expensive! Does it go all the way around you? The reviews look amazing however xx

I had SPD and could barely walk in the last 4 weeks. Tried all sorts but honestly the best thing for me was a pillow between my knees and one between my ankles or I used a spare duvet rolled up to get comfy, I also slathered myself in deep heat or vickes vapour rub (I know, strange but deffo works!) Also hopefully your having your bloods checked but aneamia can make it worse xx. ( ps. I went back to normal as soon as I gave birth so theres hope!)

Following this post as I'm in the same situation! I didn't realise Deep Heat was allowed when preggers!

Its fine as long as its not the one with ibuprofen in my midwife advised me, pharmacist will always point you in the right direction though x

I had awful PGP when pregnant, I was prescribed codeine from 5mo and was under the care of the (amazing!) women’s health physio.
I found that sleeping on my side, with a pillow under the bump, one length ways between my thighs and then another down to my ankles, with one tucked in my lower back really helped. The big pillows were out of my price range to be honest, so I kinda made my own!

@Shingles443 thank you for the recommendation. I got the bbhugme (it's on offer in sand colour on scandiborn for anyone interested!) and it's the best night sleep I've had in forever! It really doesn't compare to any other pillow I have tried.

Love the DreamGenii pillow. Helps especially when sitting up in bed & also putting between knees when laying on my side. Was a bit pricey but I am finally getting almost a full nights skeep.

Busyfool · 03/10/2018 04:46

Another vote for the Dreamgenie pillow.
I researched all of them & asked friends advice as i didn't want to waste my money. Also didn't want something taking up the whole bed!
This one doubles up as a support when feeding too once baby is here.
I did check ebay & there are some 2nd hand hardly used ones available really much cheaper & you can buy new covers but I ended up finding one on amazon for around £35 new which saved £15 compared to the high street prices. 😊

MaverickSnoopy · 03/10/2018 07:20

I would suggest getting whatever you get second hand. I got the dream geni and it literally crippled me. I did persist but it stopped me from being able to move around in the day as a consequence and so I gave up on it. I've since had several friends who said the same about it. I know it works for some though.

I'm not convinced there's a "right" cushion that works for everyone, I think it's trial and error.

Hi op Thanks for the update on the bb hug me pillow. It looks very similar to something I had in my last pregnancy called the Theraline maternity pillow- a long squidgy pillow you could mould under you etc. Stupidly I threw it away! I expect I’ll get PGP again so am looking into pillows. I had the Dream Genie and hated it so definitely prefer this style - but just wondering, is the b b hug me very bulky and stiff? I never really liked moulding it under my tummy so much - I only wedged the Theraline one very slightly under- and the BB looks lovely but quite ‘high’. Could you share just what is so good about it?
Hope that all makes sense!
And when did you use it from?
Hope you’re still sleeping well! Smile

Loulou85x · 03/10/2018 08:32

@LittleMouseontheDairy no worries I am 27 weeks atm, I wish I used it sooner. You can tighten the ends to make it as soft or as firm as you like. I would say it's half bean bag and half memory foam. I put it under my head, under my bump, between knees and rest feet on end - it runs the whole way.

I found with some of the others it hurt sleeping on my side and I felt the pressure on my knees. And my PGP was really bad, however it's already improved massively since using.

It's way more expensive than I would have liked, however it does have post natal uses also. And it's helping my catch up on h W sleep everyone keeps saying I need to before baby arrives :) x

I'm using the Maman JoJo Bebe pregnancy pillow it's like a snake and can also be zipped together to use as a breast feeding pillow, or in a different configuration as a cushion for DC, it works for me and stops the pains in my hips

How do you lie on/ in it yourself ?
I had this problem with both of my first children and used a pillow between my legs knees and lay on my side for ease I really hope I don't get it this time

MrsStrowman · 03/10/2018 09:44

Like the third photo, I'm fairly tall so with pillows to support my head beyond the top of the pregnancy pillow IYSWIM, but sometimes with the joined bit at the back rather than front, depends if my back or bump need more support that day. Feels like I'm in a nest, sometimes the cat tries to get in with me...

CatSneeze · 03/10/2018 09:47

Just a note on the BBHugMe.. I’ve had it since 27 weeks and was loving it, best nights sleep I’d had, however I’m now nearing the end of my pregnancy and the pillow gets so squashed with use (like bean bags do) that I keep having to tighten the pebbles at each end and now the pillow is so much shorter and no longer runs the length of my body- certainly wouldn’t do for another pregnancy. I can no longer sleep with my head on it so have had to use additional pillows. It’s a very comfortable pillow but I would say that it doesn’t last as well as I would have hoped for the price.

danceintime · 03/10/2018 10:02

@MrsStrowman ahh I see

faeriequeen · 03/10/2018 11:16

I bought a big banana shaped one. Great for pregnancy and as a breastfeeding support pillow too.
