Just been reading the thread on small mums scared of having big babies and have to say it has scared me if small women are giving birth to 10 pound babies!

Im 5"8 and partner is 6". Partner was only 6.5oz (2 weeks early) and i was 8.3oz when born so neither of us were incredibly huge but still, wondering if is true tall ppl have big babies or just a myth??? Btw partner is really skinny and i was size 12 before pg so neither of us are "big" but i have put on about 2 stone so far and have ten weeks left!!

ds was 9.8

I'm 6ft and my dh is 6'5, and our baby was a fairly normal to largish 8.11oz. I was expecting a giant baby though, completely terrified! But then both dh and I were about 7.5oz when born, lol, he grew incredibly quickly though! (I sprouted later!)

3 babies here - 6lb 14oz; 7lb 15oz; 8lb 9oz - in that order & last one was easiest.

ive had 6lbs 6oz and 7lbs 3oz

hoping this one doesnt go over 8lbs, but will say the second one was easier

I am 5'7" and DH is just under 6' (5'11 and 3/4")
My first was 10lbs 1/2oz, my second was 10lbs 10oz

My siblings and I were between 7lbs and 8lbs at birth and popped out easily (the biggest was my brother, he was #3 and was the most difficult apparently)

BUT My sister (5'10") had a 10lber and my Aunt (also 5'10" - my father's sister) had 3 babies over 9lbs.

My grandmother's children (my father, aunts and uncle) were big - she was 5' tall - BUT my grandfather was 6'5"

So, we blame it all on my grandparents on my father's side .... all the women on that side have had large babies ...

My aunt, my sister and I all had caesearians.

dh and I weighed about 71bs when born. Ds weighed 91bs 4oz. Difficult birth but don't know if size has anything to do with that.

katelyle · 12/06/2007 23:22

I had a 10lb 6ox baby in about two and a half hours start to finish. And I'm only 5'3! I really don't think size makes any difference.

Would agree with the general thread here!

DD1 arrived 2 days early weighed 7 lbs 13 oz but took 24 hrs - large amounts of epidural and a ventouse to finally get her out!

DD2 - 4 hrs start to finish in a birth pool - no pain so no pain relief, no stitches weighed in at 9 lb 3 oz.

DS1 - had to be induced he was 12 days over but labour was only 2.5 hrs in the pool again - no pain relief and he weighed in at 9 lbs 13 oz! Had stitches but meant I got to try the gas and air - what fab stuff almost worth having another baby for (maybe not!)

Would highly recommend reflexology during pregnancy - hospital here does it for free in the maternity ward. Think that helps get them in the right position then nature does the rest!

dollyk · 12/06/2007 23:46

did anyone who had a big baby get induced early because of the size?

yaddayah · 13/06/2007 00:27

i'm 5 foot 2 inche's and small boned

dd was 10lb 7 oz (from 1st contraction to birth 2 hrs 37 mins) gas and air, no stitches

Keep upright

Gravity is amazing !

So do I have the MN record at 11lb 7oz???

3flightsofstairs · 13/06/2007 01:12

My DS was 8lb 15oz (I'm 5'6" DH a couple of inches bigger and I'm usually* a size 10-12) oh and I was small for dates. Have since found out that my uncle was 13lbs+ more than 60 years ago when babies were much smaller - so my dear departed gran is getting the blame. Hvae been told repeatedly that I'm small for dates up until yesterday and I'm now big for dates. I know it's all bollox but I wish they hadn't told me! 17 days to go!

floo · 13/06/2007 01:24

Rosequartz had a 12lb9oz baby at 16:40:29

MunchiesMama · 13/06/2007 08:42

Dont worry i am 5'3 and was a size 8, i had a 8lb 13oz baby, with a minor tear that didnt require stitches. xx

Good luck with it all.

rattleskuttle · 13/06/2007 08:59

dollyk - i was induced at about 38 weeks with my third because he was big - not huge -9.3.

consultant said that because of my small frame etc there was not enough fluid around big baby and if i bumped myself he could get hurt. perhaps he was being overly cautious but this consultant does have a v good reputation.

i had an elected cs for my 4th because of the size 10.4 and cs for my last 10.2.

i'm average height. i think you can be short or tall and have a big baby naturally with no problems, as posted here. in my case it was to do with the size of the pelvis.
