Embarrassing-thrush tmi

This is a tmi post so if you get grossed out don't read haha
I've had what I thought was thrush from about 5 weeks pregnant. Doctors said use the pessary and cream. Which I did, and was fine for a week and came back. I'm now 18 weeks and it's been a constant circle, it's fine for a few days and then it comes back. I'm not entirely sure now it is thrush, I thought maybe BV but I brought a self test swab kit and came back negative for that and the tri - not sure how to spell it.
Reason I'm posting on here. Is because I've been to the doctors and the midwife. Neither will swab me, midwife said its completely normal because I'm pregnant, hormone changes. Doctor said just keep using pessaries (even though I explained that the pharmacy won't sell them to me now, my bump is quite big so noticeably pregnant and because it says not to take when pregnant they said I need to go to doc for prescription). I feel at a totally loss as what to do it's actually getting me quite down. Me and OH haven't done anything in weeks and weeks , because he got a mild infection the last time we did the deed, obviously from it but his cleared up within a day or 2.
It's really debilitating and embarrassing. This is going to be tmi but everytime I stand or sit it's like a gush of discharge comes out, so I am having to where a pad or change my nickers often when out. Inside it looks like thrush, the cottage cheese white stuff but I have no itching at all anywhere. Even the discharge isn't lumpy its just like grey/sometimes greenish water. I've been reading up about group strep b. And that's now worrying me. I just feel like this isn't normal and something needs to be done about it. I cant switch doctors either, you get allocated a doctor and unless he's on sick your not allowed to swap. Can anybody shed some light on what to do? Or should I just keep going back and hounding the docs? I feel so gross😖

Poor you, that sounds miserable. I think you should go back to the doctors and be very firm with them. Tell them you are really worried and uncomfortable and threaten to make a complaint if they don't take it seriously. It's not good enough for them to tell you to just keep using the pessaries - you obviously need something stronger, maybe an antifungal tablet but the doc would need to prescribe that for you.

Hope you can get it sorted.

I'm sure they are supposed to prescribe a course of pessaries rather than just one at a time. Oral tablet isn't suitable during pregnancy

NICE says to treat for at least 7 days:

Prescribe antifungal treatment.

For women and girls aged 16 years and older,
treat with intravaginal clotrimazole or miconazole for at least 7days.Do not prescribe an oral antifungal drug (fluconazole oritraconazole).Advise that care should be taken when using an applicator to avoid physical damage to the cervix. Some women prefer to insert pessaries by hand when pregnant.

If there are vulval symptoms, consider prescribing a topical imidazolein addition to intravaginal clotrimazole or miconazole. Options include clotrimazole 1% or 2% cream applied 2–3 times a day, or ketoconazole 2% cream applied 1–2 times a day (for adults aged 18 years and older).

I’m in the same boat. Have had it from day one of pregnancy and am now 31 weeks! I’ve had very good support from midwives and doctors and been prescribed all the things but nothing has worked. It is just one of those things that happens to an unlucky few apparently.

Some tips which has made it more manageable:
-wash with Aqueous cream. Never soap or shower gel.

  • eat loads of yogurt. The bio live stuff. It has to be plain. Yeo Valley is a good brand for this, lots of own brands won’t have the live cultures in it. This has made the most difference to me.
  • cut down on sugar as much as you can.
  • a couple of drops of tea tree oil in the bath is good. Make sure the bath is not too hot though.
  • apparently raw cider vinegar works a treat but I am yet to try it. I think that means drinking a bit each day and even wiping yourself with it.
  • wear skirts and dresses with hold ups in the colder weather!
  • don’t wear knickers at night.

I hope some of those things help and that yours clears up soon.

Thankyou everyone. I went back this morning and he's prescribed the oral capsule. He said long term use can cause foetal abnormalities but should be OK with one dose. I won't be taking it. He's also ordered me In i think another pessary used to treat athletes foot but can be used for thrush internally. He wasn't too sure if I could have it when pregnant. He googled it. But I'll get it tomorrow and will read the leaflet.

Hows your diet? Thrush thrives on sugar. Try eating live yogurt.

Maybe look up and print the NICE guidelines to give to him as he seems clueless. I wouldn't take the tablet either
