You don’t need to find them. The sonographer does. Relax - if they spot anything they’re concerned about they’ll tell you, and they’ll arrange follow up scans and consultants.

Congratulations BTW

Do you mean the pic they give you? That is just a snapshot for the baby book, not to be used for medical diagnosis. Thats the bit they do when you are lying there.

When I had my 20 week scan, I remember her saying “and here are the lips” and I couldn’t tell 😂 it’s not for you to try and find, that’s the job of the sonographer. If they weren’t worried, you don’t need to be!

Do you mean you can't see them on the photo or that the sonographer couldn't find them?

FirstTimeBumps · 25/09/2018 12:27

As long as the sonographer has said everything is fine you need not worry. My baby scan from 20 weeks looks like skelator Smile x

Hideandgo · 25/09/2018 12:29

They check the lips very carefully for cleft lip so you’d know all about it if there was any problem with the lips.

BertieBotts · 25/09/2018 12:32

If it's a 2D scan they might not show up depending on how the sonographer took the image. Ultrasound like that will always show a cross-section, and since the nose is more pronounced it will be easier to see.

In addition 19 week babies are still very skinny and might not have prominent lips yet.

Don't worry, if you've got to 19 weeks with a heartbeat and no significant concerns the chances are extremely good to have a healthy baby.

I don't think someone who had no training would ordinarily be able to see them unless it was a lucky angle.

ZigZagZebras · 25/09/2018 14:48

Lips are tiny, thin and not much different from the surrounding skin at that stage.
My second was born at 28 weeks and I'd have been very surprised if I'd been able to differentiate between her lips and the skin around them on a scan, they didn't stick out or have 'fat' in them.
