Just found out I'm expecting!

Hi all, I've just found out my OH and I are expecting our first baby! I'm 4 weeks tomorrow (25th Sept) if you calculate from first day of last period which gives us a rough due date of the beginning of June. (Sorry, my enter key isn't working so I can't break this up into small paragraphs). What are the first things I need to know? I only came off BC five weeks ago and immediately started on folic acid (Seven Seas Trying for a Baby) but today I've bought Pregnacare which contains folic acid plus other vits and minerals. I've already got an appointment to see my GP tomorrow (25th) so will tell him then. What are your dos and don't for early pregnancy? Obviously I won't be drinking alcohol and I'm not a smoker which helps :) but any advice would be very much appreciated!

Congratulations! Nothing specific that you should do, apart from the obvious that you've already mentioned. Stay hydrated, get plenty of rest and hope your symptoms are manageable!

Plenty of rest but also stay active... It will really help later. Lots of veg and protein. Don't feel bad about napping!

Congratulations!
Call your GP and ask when they would like you to book in with the midwife.
Have a look at this link, it's the NHS one for pregnancy and advises what to avoid.

Than you all for the replies. I'm seeing my GP later today to tell him the news and I am getting plenty of rest.

I've just got a new job and haven't started yet. I need to tell my employer, don't I? I'm worried they'll decide they don't want me Confused

You don't need to see your gp if it's just because your pregnant

Squiff70 · 25/09/2018 11:30

I made the appointment five weeks ago for something else, which I still need to see him about. Im going to let him know about the pregnancy whilst I'm there.

You don’t have to tell your employer until 15 weeks before your due date so there’s no rush. Just be aware you won’t be entitled to any SMP so will have to claim maternity allowance from the DWP.

Congratulations!
