Calling in sick with PGP

Anybody called jn sick with PGP ? I've had it for 6 weeks now but I'm at breaking point today. I cried in the middle of Morrison's today and can't face work tomorrow as I'm a year 1 teacher and it's killing me. I feel so down about it and also so guilty.

I did and was off for six weeks, they’ve now made adjustments and put me in an admin role that is doable. My last pregnancy I was in a wheelchair by the end and off work.
PGP is debilitating, don’t feel guilty.

I was on crutches for 5 months of my last pg. I was signed off. The Occupational Health team at the LA became involved. They felt it was too dangerous for me to be moving in school corridors and I ended up being signed off until I hit 36 weeks. Mat leave started then.

I did once or twice. Work made adjustments - gave me a parking permit so I didn't have to walk far to the office and allowed me to work from home one day a week.

You could consider asking for another risk assessment on your return to work.

I've not known anyone call in sick with it but work should definitely make reasonable adjustments for you! An updated risk assessment sounds essential. If it's that bad haven't you spoken to HR about it anyway? If not you really really need to asap! There are things they can put in place. That said I do sympathise - year 1 teaching with pgp must be awful!!

Thanks for your replies.
To be honest, work weren't interested when I told them. I said I needed physio and they told me to sort it in my own time. I've never had a risk assessment and didn't get one in my first pregnancy either. They are just totally unsupportive.

Which Union are you in? Self cert this week. Make an appt with your GP, midwife and union rep. Phone Occ Health yourself and make an appt.

Yes I was signed off from 26 weeks pregnant as I’m a nurse and couldn’t do job with my hips so bad

beccii161016 · 24/09/2018 09:13

You should always have a risk assessment. Not a case of how supportive the workplace is, it's a legal requirement on their part. If they don't sort one when you ask you need to speak to your union if you have one.

I've ended up working from home for months due to severe SPD. I needed a particular chair, work wouldn't provide it so stuck at home it is.

If WFH hadn't been an option then I'd have had to be signed off sick.

surreygirl1987 · 24/09/2018 10:03

Wow that appalling. No risk assessment whatsoever?! It's a legal requirement. Not necessarily a personal one, but one that covers pregnant women. I would get this in writing over email, and make an appointment with your midwife or GP. If you're in a union call them immediately too.

You've received some good advice here. I suffered PGP as well and was able to work from home 2-3 days per week as it got worse (luckily my role was easy to perform remotely). I eventually got signed off sick 2 weeks before going on mat leave. People don't realise how excruciating it is and how it severely impacts mobility and ability. Don't feel guilty.

owl89 · 24/09/2018 19:26

Thank you for everyone's advice. I ended up going into work. Managed to get through the day but now paying for it on the sofa. I'm with NEU so I'm going to phone them for some advice. Do I need to ask work for risk assessment or should they automatically arrange one ?

It should be automatic for any pregnant woman but you now need a specific risk assessment for you.

The risk assessment was why I ended up being signed unfit for work. The risk of being knocked off my crutches in the school corridor was deemed too high.

Have you been referred to Women's Health Physio? Do you know about The Pelvic Partnership website? Lots of good advice on there.
