sleepsuits (they are the same as romper suits), trousers and long sleep tops. maybe a thick jumper and/or snowsuit as at the beginning of march it probably will still be quite cold. hope this helps x

Lots of layers. My DS was born beginning of April and he was usually in a body suit with a sleepsuit on top. I then added further layers depending on temperature.

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 23/09/2018 15:04

Sleepsuits, long sleeved vests, a couple of cardigans in varying thickness, a couple of hats. Definitely a coat, I might hold off on the snowsuit/pramsuit but keep an eye on the weather and buy online if necessary.

Think layers more than buying a pram suit or baby coat- much handier.

Really recommend the Tuppence and Crumble star wraps for going outside or trips in the car- no fastenings to worry about and keeps them cosy without being bulky. We managed with just that and blankets when I realised how much of a pain it was getting a newborn into a snow suit.

I found cardigans handy for when it got a bit nippy in the house, but they'll generally be fine in a sleepsuit and vest with a blanket on top if they're in a Moses basket.

Mine was born end of January and we just used short sleeved vests under sleepsuits for inside. When going out in pram we’d add a cardigan and a hat then as many blankets as required. Coats are difficult to put on newborns and snowsuits are pointless until they are out of a carrycot - you can’t use them in a sling or car seat and every time you go indoors (into a shop etc) you’d have to take it off otherwise they can over heat - much easier just to take blanket/hat off!

Watching with interest!

TheGhostOfYou · 24/09/2018 07:06

Sleep suits, vests and a cardigan with an appropriate amount blankets (layered if needed) when out is usually what mine were in (born Feb and April).

My eldest was born in March. It snowed the night we brought him home and was snowy/freezing cold for about the first two weeks at home. We didn't bother with a snow suit or anything like that though. Because it's such a pain getting a new born into one and they can't wear them in the car seat. He was fine with a coat and blankets.

In the summer then it was baking hot and he only wore a vest from about 3 months onwards!

My DD was born in March, it was a relatively mild spring so she wore sleepsuits with a short sleeved vest under and sometimes she wore just a long sleeved vest in the house. We never bothered with coats or anything, we just had a Morrck blanket in the car seat and used blankets in the pram.

I'm due March also! Haven't even started buying yet tho because I find out what I'm having in 3 weeks so going to hold of till then! March is usually quite cold so fleecy sleepsuits cardigans hats just general warm clothing! What date are you due? X

BakewellGin1 · 24/09/2018 22:53

I'm due 21st March... We havn't 100% decided whether to find out or not... So I have bought some white/light grey pattened sleepsuits, bibs and vests from Asda/Sainsburys while baby event was on in First Size but then if we find out will buy 0-3 in some girl/boy colours... will also look at getting cardigans/coat then too. Also got some Tommee Tippee Bottles/Teats and going back tomorrow for a few other bits such as Muslins x

The beast form the east was beginning of April last year - definitely get a snow suit! I’m due April 1st and thankfully have my snowsuit from my dd who was a November newborn, wasn’t really thinking about needing it until I looked back at photos of us sledging last April Confused

Tiffinyc · 25/09/2018 00:00

I was to impatient so booked the 3D scan to find out want my son with us so we can share that wee moment together! I'm due 16th of March! Must pop into Asda to the baby event for a nosy! I've tried a few different places but couldn't really see much uni sex baby stuff it was all mostly pink or blue! I've been so excited to buy little bits! But as soon as I have this scan I'm going straight on a baby spree lol Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy x

@Tiffinyc actually look in both the boys and girls sections in all shops carefully as they do place neutral coloured vests and baby gros/sleep suits e.g. oranges, yellows, patterned in those sections. The actual unisex sections tend to have grey and white coloured items in them. I actually found it easier to look online and do 'click and collect'.

Tiffinyc · 25/09/2018 08:29

Thanks @BlueBug45 must actually have a look online 😊

ChangerChangerson · 25/09/2018 08:48

March weather can differ considerably year on year so I would buy nearer the time if you can. My son was born mid March this year and it wasn't too bad, however we had just had that big snowfall the month before. Leggings and long sleeved tops plus a jumper were our go-to outfits, plus a blanket and hat. Basically layers so you can dress according to the weather.

BakewellGin1 · 25/09/2018 08:57

@Tiffinyc Sainsburys have some cute bits in too. We dont have one close by so have click and collected but will definately be ordering more once I find out one way or the other x

this is useful, thank you. My baby is due 3rd March so thinking it's still going to be pretty chilly when it arrives. Plan at the moment is to dress it mostly in body suits under sleepsuits, and have a couple of cardigans, hats and blankets to layer accordingly. I was thinking of making it a star wrap for going out doors, and planning to use a sling a lot so it'll benefit from our body heat. I heard that those crossover/kimono fastening body suits are better for newborns as it doesn't irritate the umbilical stump so much?
