What does decreased movements feel like?

Apologies if I sound a bit daft but not quite certain what decreased movements would feel like and don't want to wait too late. My baby is generally quite active but sometimes the movements feel more gentle, but definitely are distinct movements. If I wait a wee bit (30-90 minutes) I'll feel the baby bunging around in there again quite strongly, like she's shaking my whole bump back and forth! Is this normal? I haven't been able to quite work out what her pattern is, as she's quite active all the time.

Also when she's very active sometimes it feels almost violent? She shakes my whole bump and really jolts me, is this alright?

Periods of no movement are perfectly fine - baby will be sleeping or resting. Try and find daily patterns, for example lots of activity in the evening but quiet in the morning. Changes in those patterns are what to watch out for.

Having said that the patterns do change over time and some babies (like my DD) don't seem to think much of routine.

If you're worried call your midwife team, they'll be able to give you more personalised advice.

How far along are you?

Oh, and DD also had an almighty kick. It was properly painful towards the end, especially when she got me in the ribs. Wouldn't worry about it.

Please call your hospital triage if you have any worries, they really won't be phased in the slightest.
Always always always best to get any doubts checked.

Thank you, I feel she is moving fine now, just sometimes she can be a bit quiet but never too long before back to flipping around. Is there a particular time I should worry that I haven't felt her move? Or is there something. That will be different, softer, that I should ring about?

I had an EMCS due to reduced movements, at 37 weeks. It was very obvious that the movements had changed and reduced. Although having said that, I think it was easier for me to tell because it was my second pregnancy. DS2 normally moved at certain times in the day, plus after eating, or drinking something cold etc. The week he was born I noticed on the Wednesday that I thought maybe there were fewer movements, then less on the Thursday and again on Friday. On the Saturday morning he didn't move at all when I woke up, nor after breakfast or after eating chocolate and drinking cold orange juice. Nothing at all. Thankfully I had a hospital appointment that morning early, and was able to get checked out quickly. No movements at all picked up on the trace, so I had a c section that morning.

Thank you assassinatedbeuaty, so I reckon it's more a gradual change and might take place over a day or so? Not that I'll feel her move and an hour later worry that she hadn't?

I don't think I'd be worried about no movement after an hour, unless it continued and the usual pattern of movement didn't happen. Certainly if there was nothing after doing things like eating, drinking a cold drink, lying on the left and so on.

With me, my daughter went from having a very distinct pattern and lots of movements to me barely feeling anything one day to more the next day then nothing again.. whereas her brothers movements remained consistent.. twins.

She was always moving on the trace but perhaps kicking her brother?

Firsttimemum090 · 23/09/2018 11:55

Thank you both xx
