I've had the same mothercare change bag for the last 3 babies and it's got very tatty!!
Might treat myself to a new one. Anyone got any good recommendations for good practical user friendly ones.

Something to go with my new mountain buggy urban in black that being delivered tommorrow!!

Thanks in advance

Oioi bags [yum]

Sunshinemummy · 11/06/2007 12:15

OiOi Messenger is ace. You can get it in black with a red lining and red piping. It has matching change mat and bottle holder and holds loads.

I got a good one from superdrug for £8 but I'm currently using one that I got free from a magazine

Gursky · 11/06/2007 12:21

Free huggies bag is great, unless you have a buggy you can't hang things off. Even DH will carry the huggies bag! My tip is don't buy one in pink etc or that looks like a handbag or the dad's have an excuse not to change the nappies...

Caroline1852 · 11/06/2007 12:21

Buy a portable change mat from Blooming Marvellous (small and folding) and then buy a bag you like to put it in.

PurpleLostPrincess · 11/06/2007 13:27

I'm going back a few years now but when I had DS (now 13!), I had this brilliant Tupperware bag. It was absolutely fantastic and had all the right pockets and a hard bit for the middle and a changing mat and everything! I used it so much it got really tatty in the end - wish I'd taken them up on the 'lifetime' guarantee now!

I have no idea if Tupperware even exist anymore, let alone if they still do changing bags!?

beckmo · 11/06/2007 14:44

Tcaibo were doing one last week for £12 with mat, bottle holder and wet bag in navy. Has 2 sorts of detachable handles to fit all buggies and is in a wipe down material with nice citrus colour stripes inside it. Two outside velcro pockets, spacious inside....it's on their website and I bought one instore on Friday. Picked the outside label off it because I'm a snob and it looks very smart!

Sparkletastic · 11/06/2007 14:48

Love my SkipHop but have a friend with exactly the same one who hates hers . I like having a proper change bag for the ease of attachment to buggy plus I'm a sucker for lots of pockets for all the mountains o' things you have to carry. Have a lovely handbag for at work / off duty - best of both worlds

francagoestohollywood · 11/06/2007 14:50

I've never actually used a proper changing bag. I used a backpack. or forgot nappies most of the times I went out.

peanutbutter · 11/06/2007 15:09

I agree with Cod. I longed for a lovely changing bag with ds but couldn't justify the expense. A few months ago I found a nice big bag in Red Herring for £25. It fits everything in and I'll be using it for the next baby in a few months. An expensive changing back really isn't necessary - a nice big bag you like does the job just as well

goingfor3 · 11/06/2007 15:27

TK Maxx have some good samsonite ones in at the moment. worth a look if you have one near by.

Chelseamum · 11/06/2007 15:33

I bought a gorgous Cath Kidston one when my dd was born. She is now over a year and I am still using... very handy changing mat, bottle warmer and plety of space plus easy to clean.

Lovely designs..... a bit dear at £60.00

Very happy wiht mine!

We hav a Babyrucks one in black neoprene, I let DH pick it so that he had no excuse not to use it, in fact he used it more than me. I used to just chuck a freezer bag with a nappy & some wipes in my bag! It was about £30 from John Lewis but looks brand new & he used t a lot with Dd & will be using it with new one, if we can find it cos it's in the loft

marathonmum · 11/06/2007 16:57

I quite like the samsonite ones, sammies in teh pattern of ladybirds and penguins. No TKmaxx near me though.

They are about th price I was looking to pay.

Want something not to feminine as I want husband to use it aswell when he's out with the baby.

Skip hop looks nice but cant justify the price. esp as it just gets chucked in hall cupboard at home and all the other kids chuck their shoes and bags on top of it

Might have to look on ebay for sammies. Which size is best. They seem to do two.

very techical this isn't it

Another vote for just using an ordinary bag. That way you can take a different bag on different outings, depending on how much stuff you need (day out with whole family vs quick trip to shops). I have a fold up travel changing mat which was £2 from Mothercare. You can buy bottle carriers separately too, if you really want one.

dal21 · 11/06/2007 20:37

A piece of advice one of my friend gave me was to invest in 2 changing bags (esp if you sometimes go out in a car aswell as walking). And keep one of the bags (the one you aren't using) fully kitted out. That way if you ever need to leave the house quickly - you can grab and go.
I thought it was the best idea so am investing in two. Am getting the one below - so can sling across the back when we take the baby out walking in a baby carrier - plus DH can use this one. It is multi award winning too!

For my second one, I am going to get a thoroughly girlie one that I love. Have my eye on a few! Its not all about baby - mummy deserves a nice bag too - especially if all the nice handbags are going to be relegated to the wardrobe for a while!

lilylilyrose · 11/06/2007 21:45

Marathonmum I have the Sammies ladybird backpack - got it from ebay for £25 inc p&p. It's like a TARDIS - you can fit tons in it!

I'm not due to have my baby for another 8 weeks, but I've been using it as a normal rucksack for trips out etc.

My husband says he'd wear it too

marathonmum · 11/06/2007 23:35

thanks lilyrose. I love them. In a quandry whether to go for the turtle, ladybird or penguin. Too much choice

I found you have to be really disciplined about stocking up when you get home from a trip out so you can just grab and go. Messenger was good as DP also liked it so we could share duties. DS has a Sammies Penguin for nursery and it is really great - sturdy and roomy and cute.
