Gestational diabetes - sudden drop in blood glucose?

Hi

A long shot I know but google is giving me bugger all.....,,,,,,

Over the past few days I’ve had low blood sugar, to the point where I’ve stopped using my insulin as I’m getting readings as low as 3.5 and I’ve just had 3 sandwiches (really carby filling too) and without insulin I’ve only gone up to 5.3?

I’ve not suddenly stopped having GD, but now I’m wondering if blood sugar drops when you go into labour?

I’d phone your diabetes team as consistent low readings that don’t really rise can indicate problems with the placenta.

Are you In latter stages of pregnancy ? I have T2 diabetes and went onto insulin when I was pregnant. As I got to 35/36 weeks I kept getting sudden dips in BS and my scheduled CS was brought forward to 37 weeks. All was 100% but I’d definitely speak to medical proffessional

I've heard it could be a problem with blood sugar too

35+4, I’m already scheduled for a section in 10 days because I’m having twins and they’re causing me all kinds of dramas. I best call MAU.

I had the same and I was told to contact triage ASAP as it is to do with the placenta

Get advice asap

Sorry my previous reply was short. I hope you are being seen now OP and all's well with the babies. I have had GD in two pregnancies. With my last one, I was amazed when my blood sugar started appearing normal around 35 weeks, considering I was on insulin and metformin since week 16. The numbers are meant to go up as one progress in the pregnancy, when someone has GD. When the numbers start appearing normal that means the placenta isn't performing as it's meant to. Basically my placenta was failing and I couldn't even recognise when I was going into hypo. It's quite dangerous. Anyway my daughter was fine in the end. Don't worry as long as you get seen ASAP.

Advice so far is keep an eye on my BG levels and the babies movements and any probs call again.
Now I want to puke (this is nothing new, I’ve puked for 35 weeks straight), I’ve had a nosebleed and just generally feel like garbage. Told DH don’t disappear anywhere just in case.
