Miscarriage but no bleeding?

Had hcg levels checked monday.... they were 154...checked again on thurs and level is 58.... Having extremely faint lines on HPT. Experiencing some period pain like cramping but no bleeding.... Is this to be expected? Not to sound crass but would rather I would bleed to get some closure, rather than feeling like I'm in limbo. I conceived on 27th August so still very early, but would have expected some bleeding nonetheless.

I've no experience of having hcg levels tested however I have miscarried previously on two occasions and both times my body "retained" known as a missed miscarriage as there was no bleeding initially. I'm sorry you're going through this and I hope you get some much needed answers soon x

You might not start a bleed until hcg reaches zero or you might not bleed spontaneously. You should continue to be monitored.

Very sorry for your loss. Be kind to yourself...

Thank you both very much for your answers and kind words. Would there be a possibility of etopic with such rapid decreases? Or does it definitely sound like a m/c?

Hopefully someone with knowledge of ectopic can come along and answer better but it does sound like an impending miscarriage rather than ectopic from what I understand. Flowers

Thank you @pheasant1. Between the two, mc definitely seems like the lesser of two evils (particularily as I worry so much about future fertility) but is still heartrbeaking

Sending you my very best wishes, have you got a plan of action for what's next for you? Or are you being left to wait and see?
I completely understand your thinking on it though, I've not experienced ectopic personally, but it certainly it seems to have much more impact going forward. My first miscarriage was at 12 weeks (missed miscarriage as my baby's heartbeat had stopped at around 9 weeks) and I bounced back from that physically quite quickly. Mentally it took it's toll, so please do be gentle on yourself too xx

So sorry you're going through this. I had an ectopic but my levels never dropped, they doubled as they should in a healthy pregnancy. I'm not sure they would drop in an ectopic? I think everyone has a different experience. X

physicskate · 23/09/2018 09:20

Many ectopics do resolve themselves in spontaneous miscarriage (but a very scary proportion do not). Numbers can drop in ectopics too. With such low hcg numbers, there is not much risk of complications even with an ectopic.

With my ectopic hcg did go up, just not at the rate they would have expected with a pregnancy.

Thank you everyone for advice and support. I'm very sorry to hear about your experience of miscarriage @pheasant1. Mc is horrendous at any stage but particularly so around the 12 week mark when we are just starting to breathe that bit easier. I have mc'd once before but was very early on and had a period like bleed. Still no bleeding today, Took a HPT from tescos and had the faintest of faint lines.... definitely getting lighter each time I test. Its just quite disconcerting that I have no pain/bleeding. I did have about 3/4 days of VERY light brown spotting on the 14th Sept (which prompted the hcg tests), but I would definitely have expected more bleeding., My period wouldve been due on the 21st so thought I may have bled then but nada. Im just worried that even when (if??) my hcg levels drop to zero will I bleed then? Is it possible to never bleed with a mc? And @hartof and @thismeansnothing, I'm also very sorry to hear about your etopics too. They must be truly terrifying. Thank you for the generosity in sharing your experiences. Its truly appreciated. Thank you for your advice too @physicskate.... I would have thought that being so early, things would have resolved themselves spontaneously but that doesnt seem to be the case.... as aforementioned, the brown spotting/cramping may have actually been the mc but it was so light...no where near as heavy as a period... even the 4 days of spotting together wouldnt have filled a pad xx
