Are you currently employed or unemployed? If you are employed how much do you earn per weekend how long have you been employed? How pregnant are you?

MrsG010814 · 21/09/2018 12:12

Would all depend on your household income in terms of benefits. Are you employed? If you are have you checked what maternity pay you are entitled to i.e smp, ma or enhanced? There is also child benefit which is about £82 per month depending on your income. Without further info would be hard to answer your question.

Do you live with a partner? I think you would only be entitled to child benefit and smp to be honest.

TangelasVine · 21/09/2018 12:49

Sounds like you'd get statutory maternity pay

gamerchick · 21/09/2018 12:51

What is your household income? As in yours and your partner's combined?

megan18 · 21/09/2018 13:08

Erm i think its like 40k something like that or less more like 35k at the mo but when the baby arrives id have to do less hours

Then it looks like you'll be entitled to maternity pay and child benefit when baby comes. The threshold for anything else is quite low now.

I don't know anything about the childcare thing so that might be worth looking at.

overagain · 21/09/2018 13:18

you can go to 'entitled to' (google it) and put your details in there pretending baby has already been born. But I doubt you'll get more than SMP and Child Benefit.

MrsG010814 · 21/09/2018 13:33

As a pp has said the income threshold is quite low for benefits other than child benefit. There is the new tax free childcare which has replaced the childcare voucher scheme which may be worth looking at.

I would also be aware that employers don't have to agree to part time working. I requested to go down to 4 days after my first and was refused it was full time or nothing. I had needed to go back 4 days for childcare purposes and it didn't occur to me I would be refused. Just something to think about and be aware of.

My advice would be to save as much money as possible before you go on maternity leave.

What would you need weekly for a baby new born to 6 months when they start foods

OP posts:
MrsG010814 · 21/09/2018 15:10

Nappies, wipes, formula if bottle feeding, clothes when they outgrow a size. Can't think of anything else weekly that you would need. Once they start solids I would just give them some of what your having to save extra expense. I found it useful to stock up on Nappies and wipes while pregnant and then that saw me through for a couple of months.

SoyDora · 21/09/2018 15:12

Weekly... just nappies and wipes really. Formula if you’re formula feeding.

gamerchick · 21/09/2018 15:13

How long is a piece of string?

Depends on the baby. Breastfeeding might not work and formula costs a fair bit + equipment. Baby might need 12 nappies a day.....or not. Impossible to gauge.

Haven't you thought about all this before you got pregnant? Babies cost money, your figure. They eat your time and steal your sleep. Best thing you can do is save your pay and live on your partners only to get used to it. Then you have a cushion.
