Is having breech babies a genetic thing?

Has anyone had experience of breech presentation running in families?

nope.

ds was breech but as far as I know, he was the first in the family.

Certainly when I was asking for advice nobody jumped up and said "when my baby was breech....."

ds4 was first breech in our family, i would imagine if its a genetic thing at least one of my other 3 would have been breech

No. Mine was only the second breech in my simply ginormous extended family.

Ah thanks guys - that's good to hear. Me and my brother were breech but my sister was head first. I was just curious as to whether it might mean I could be more likely to have breech babies. My mum had forceps deliveries for me and my brother but today it seems having a c-section is the done thing.

Well my dd (only dc so far) was breech. Only found out at 39 weeks. My mum came with me to the attempted (and failed) ecv and was reminiscing how she had gone through the same thing with me successfully 30 years previously at 38 weeks. I was the only breech pres of her 3 kids. Hoping that my next is the right way up so I can have vbac.

Ds was breech and my mum had 2 breech presentations out of 4. My midwife said that sometimes breech presentations can be due to the shape of the pelvis.

My DD was breech as was I ( mum's first child) and my mother (Grandma's first child.)

Now expecting DC2 and waiting to see if the pattern (second child boy, head-down) continues to repeat!

Seriously, the midwives I told about the family connection were interested but non-committal about the idea of a scientific link. Seems sensible that it may be in some cases related to genetically-inherited shape of pelvis, uterus etc.

My dd was breech and it was not discovered until I was in labour, and I had to have a caesarian. I was breech when my mum was pregnant, but this was known and I was turned round 3 times before i stayed head first and was born normally. My cousin on my mums side also had a breech baby last year.
