Double pram recommendations?

Hi

I had a nightmare with DC1's pram, I got caught up in what looked good rather than what was practical so I ended up buying 4 until I found the perfect one (Joie Chrome). So this time around I thought I'd do a little more research.

DC2 is due in March, and DC1 will be around 15 months. We're not planning on buying it until DC2 has been born but I'd like to go and have a look at a few before we decide what I want. We'll also probably be buying second hand given how much I spent on my other 4 prams. Lol!

I'm not overly keen on the double prams that sit on top of one another and I don't want to use a sling either, I'd prefer them to sit side by side. I like the bugaboo donkey duos, but the reviews are quite mixed.

This is what I'm looking for, can you help with some suggestions. Smile

. I'd prefer both seats parent facing.
. I live in the country, so need something that can go off road but would also be good in the city.
. A big basket is a must!
. Needs to fit into a qashqai.
. Something light would be preferable.

Thank you! Grin

I was going to recommend the donkey duo - it is pretty good.

myotherbagisgucci · 19/09/2018 15:43

Thanks @Sandstormbrewing thats definitely my favourite so far. But I've read that it's too wide to get through the front door and it's difficult to store in the hallway as it's bulky. Have you experienced these issues with yours?

There are very few side by side parent facing that aren't big! The only other options are world facing (such as a baby jogger and out n about r mountain buggy) or the ones on top of each other.

We have a big front door and don't store it in the hall so not an issue for us.

I'm in the same position as you OP!

I've been looking at the cupla duo by baby elegance and similar.

I think a single frame but with double attachments seems to be my favourite option.

I had a spin with the donkey duo at the local pram shop and I found it very heavy and wider than what I thought.

We have the bugaboo donkey. It's great but so heavy and bulky. We also have a qashqai and it takes up the entire boot (and piles so high you can't see out the back window... This meant we can't take it with us when we go to visit family at weekends as we can't fit overnight bags etc)

So, we bought the mountain buggy nano duo. It folds up sooo tiny and opens up quick and easily. It's really a fab double stroller. I wouldn't have thought it would be good over muddy woodland, but it was more than adequate for a whole day walking around the local county show (in a field).

You can buy a newborn attachment (althoigh I didn't bother and put DS in it from 3 months old) However it is forward facing if you don't have the newborn attachment.

Thanks everyone, your feedback is great!

Wow @Milkmonster2 I've just watched the YouTube video of the mountain buggy nano duo and it's tiny when folded down! I'll definitely go and have a look at one of these. Grin

Snap, OP! Grin

The mountain buggy one looks good, thanks Milkmonster2.

Out n About Nipper double for off roading. I couldn't live without mine on the country field walks. Seats a 4 year old comfortably in it too and is only 72cm wide so fits through our tiny door.

lovemyhorsesxo · 19/09/2018 16:37

I am buying the mountain buggy nano duo it’s by far the best and 800 quid cheaper then the donkey duo

myotherbagisgucci · 19/09/2018 18:59

Has anyone tried the ABC DESIGN Zoom Pushchair?

We have the donkey and love it. We keep it outside though as we have a roofed terrace. You could keep the frame outside and just unclip the seats / carrycot and bring them inside?

The Mountain Buggy also looks good but the seats are a lot narrower - something to consider if your toddler isn’t on the slim side. I’m also not a fan of the lie flat function as you just loosen some straps to recline it from recollection. I would definitely try and find a shop where you can test them all out with your toddler for size.

We have the donkey duo and it just about fits through our front door. It's bulky even when it's just a single and we don't have a separate hall. Also takes up the whole boot and feels like a game of Tetris to get it in every time! (That's prob me to blame rather than the buggy!) I don't find the basket very big and it's also tricky to get too particularly on the pram side BUT in saying all that is is very nice to push, both kids seem comfortable in it and I wanted a side by side. I do feel like I'm pushing a tank though! The mountain jogger was my next choice and the only reason I didn't go with it is because there's a lot of time when I just have one child with me so needed it to be adaptable to a single.

Ex childminder here so have tried quiet a few
By far my favourite was the out n about nipper, fantastic pram!

Another recommendation for the donkey here

Another vote for the MB Duet. I have just bought a secondhand one (yet to arrive) but it seemed to offer the best flexibility I could find in a side-by-side double. And it's the narrowest side-by-side available, which appealed greatly as my DH was very grumpy about getting a side-by-side and not fitting into any shops in our old English town... It has a parent facing seat, which was what swung it for me... I don't think a 15m/o would fit in the parent facing seat though (it's meant to be quite small as it's a modification of the carrycot unit).

The MD Duet seats are very narrow, but I've seen plenty of pictures of perfectly normal-sized four-year-olds sitting in them happily, so I don't think that's a deal breaker unless you sire giants. Grin

I was originally going to get an Out and About double, but there was no option for a parent facing seat, so baby would need to go world facing once they grew out of the carrycot, which I personally wasn't happy with. I kept my DC1 world facing for quite a long time as he seemed to prefer it.

I also like the fact the MB is narrow enough that you wouldn't feel stupid using it as a single for just one child. Although I do have an iCandy that I'll probably use when I just have the baby... unless the MB is a much nicer push (I'm hopeful it might be as my 3-wheel iCandy always felt like it was pulling to one side).

We have a donkey duo, and it’s a lovely pram, but I’m now looking to get rid of it as it’s just too bloody big! Takes up my whole huge boot. Am looking at replacing it with a baby jogger city mini duo, it folds down really small and everyone I’ve spoken to who has one raves about them.
