Numb hands when I sleep?!

I'm 17 weeks and the last few weeks I have been woken a lot in the night as my hands have gone numb like pins and needles kind of feeling.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm now trying to sleep on my sides so it's cutting them off.

Or could it be a carpal tunnel thing? 😩

Yep sounds like it to me. I had it. My go wasn't helpful but my midwife was. Mine took a few months after I had the baby to go away.

I had it too. My midwife just shrugged it off saying it was very common. Kept we awake at night but I found if I slept with my hands hanging off the bed that helped loads! Or you can buy special supports to wear. It went a few months after I’d had my baby.

I had it too, carpal tunnel in both hands. Didn't get it till around 32 weeks though. Mine did disappear straight after birth though. Sorry no better news, it is really annoying!

I have it too and it started around 26 weeks. My consultant said it's absolutely normal and it's carpal tunnel. It's a build up of fluid in your wrists and will disappear after birth. In my -limited- experience I don't think there is a position that makes it better. But to be honest I struggle to find a position to sleep at all, so anything that does not cause me back pain or to feel faint etc is ok at the moment, regardless to my poor hands.
So annoying! I get up with numb hands or 'pins and needles' and recently they stay swollen for most of the day. I have to give up on wearing rings.

Glad to know it isn't just me but damn it!
Good to know it does go after too.

Carpal tunnel, just get the splints.

Belles86 · 19/09/2018 10:30

It’s crap isn’t it? I’m awake for a few hours each night with it. Use splints on both wrists (bought 2 on amazon for £18) which help ‘a bit’ and use cold water and paracetamol for relief. Best to avoid too much salt so you don’t retain any more fluid and there’s exercises you can do that help release stiffness. Good luck and stiff finger solidarity 🖖

Dead hands, dead arms and dead legs every night they take it in turns to keep me awake or cause pain when I turn. 22 weeks so it looks like it might be for a while yet. Sad
