Abnormal Cells whilst pregnant

Hey Everyone! šŸ‘‹šŸ»
Brace yourselves as this is a long one!! Lol!
I’m just after a bit of reassurance and maybe shared experience to help ease my mind.
I’m currently pregnant with my second (through IVF) and am almost 10wks pregnant.
I have had a smear test back (after having abnormal cells removed last year) just after I got pregnant which states I have abnormal cells and am having an exam now in Dec (at around 20 weeks). - before you wonder as well....the reason why I had the smear so late is because we had already started treatment with meds etc and I then had the reminder through the post. I was advised by the Ivf nurse to have it done and it took ages for it to come back so I gathered all was ok. Anyway...
I have been so so nervous/anxious about these abnormal cells and what potential threat they have to my baby but also...to add to my worries...during my 9 week internal scan the Ivf nurse just casually says ā€˜oh I think there’s a cyst there’ and just carries on with no real concern but alarm bells are going crazy in my head and I just can’t seem to settle. I don’t think it helps either that this pregnancy I have had terrible sickness and fatigue and also pain on my left side near my ovaries if I sneeze or stretch too far.
If anyone can share any similar experience that would be great! Lol!
Tia from an overthinking crazy pregnant lady 🤰 🤪

Hello! Congrats on your 2nd! šŸ‘
What grade of cells did you have removed before? Was it the first smear after the cell removal - around six months later? When they removed the cells first time what did they say?
What grade are the abnormal cells this time?
Tbh if they were that concerned they would have had you in straight away, a friend of mine fell pregnant (didn’t realise until she went for smear test).

She actually had cervical cancer and they acted really really quickly (ie they didn’t wait for more tests a few months later!)
She had a beautiful little girl a few years ago and then had treatment for the cancer after however she was heavily monitored throughout pregnancy.

To ease your concerns though why not book in with the nurse at your docs and go through it with her?

I'm sorry I'm no help regarding abnormal cells hooe everything is ok in that respect! I'm 12+2 had a scan 2 weeks ago midwife discovered a cyst on my ovary measuring 2cm. She said they can come and go and it might burst by time I go for scan next week . I'm shared consultant led midwife said he'll keep an eye on it. I think there's a certain diameter if they go over might be a concern. Bit like your midwife mine wasn't concerned either but glad they'll be monitoring it any way. I have had PCOS for 10 years. I also have burning pain on both ovaries so I'm near convinced there could be another one! Everyone was saying it was just round ligament pain and I was worried about an ectopic as it was painful coughing and sneezing so at least the cyst explains it. If I'm in bed and have to cough I pull my knees up into my tummy and it helps.

I had abnormal cells (CIN3) removed during this pregnancy before I knew I'd conceived. They were really speedy getting me in and sorted with it being CIN3 but it took a while waiting for biopsy results to come back after. I told the colposcopy clinic I was pregnant but they've called me for another colposcopy this winter when I'll be in third trimester anyway. I've asked midwives if I should go as some of the stuff I read suggested not but they didn't know and colposcopy clinic said to ask them so neither much help yet :-). I'm planning to ask consultant when I see them for 16 week appointment next week.

I've also managed to grow a cyst in the past. They thought they spotted one when I had a late miscarriage a few years ago and arranged for me to come back and get it checked a few weeks later (12 I think) at which time I was told all fine /settled down on its own and no need for follow up.

Jo's trust are good for info on abnormal cells, but hopefully you'll get to speak to someone soon. I've tried reading but I think different trusts and clinics do stuff a little differently. I keep trying to remind myself the really good news is it's been spotted even if the not knowing exactly what happens next is tough. Thinking of you.

Thank you all for your replies! It has really put my mind at ease over the safety of the little one.
@Angelmiracle...glad that your cyst was ok is just regular thing as I have PCOS too. And thank you for the advise bringing my knees up! Very much helped!
@SundayAm...the cells were CIN2 going to 3 and yes it was my first smear since.
I have not yet had my colposcopy that is what I’m having in December. I’m sorry to hear about your friend but I’m glad that everything was ok in the end!
@Spud2019...I’m so sorry to hear what you’re going through but it’s definitely 100% good that it has been spotted early and everything is ok with your little one!
I’m guessing the exam in Dec is just to double check they have got everything so I’m sure you’ll be ok.
Thanks for sharing your experience too and I hope everything goes well for you xx
