What is this pain?

I’m 19 weeks and have pain in my upper inner thigh / groin area, particularly on the right.

I’ve had it for 3-4 weeks already which seems early to be having that sort of pain as I’ve heard of people having similar when they are much more heavily pregnant. It’s started off feeling more like inner thighs but more recently had felt more like pubic area as well. It’s just the general area!

Is it round ligament pain? sciatica? Today feels almost like a pulled muscle to the point bag today I think I’d struggle if I had to walk much at all. I might even struggle walking less than a mile to the train station if it carries on.

Is this something to talk to MW about or GP?

It’s bearable but cannot help but think it will get worse as I get bigger...

Also want to try to exercise more even if just walking but not sure whether that will help or make the problem worse. Same with preg yoga...

Next appointment with MW is 1 November altho I do have an appointment to see her 1 Oct just to drop off a urine sample so could maybe speak to her then.

Hi, i don't think I'm gonna be much help but didn't want to read and run. It very well could be round ligament pain I've had it with this pregnancy pretty much from the start, then again it is my third so everything's already overly stretched lol. If the pain is constant though I would definitely go and speak to the gp just for advice, they may very well just say have a word with your midwife or may be able to offer you reassurance themselves. I know that SPD which is pregnancy related can also cause pain in your hip joints too, but if it's causing pain just walking short distances then I'd definitely get checked out.
Hope I've helped

It sounds like pelvic girdle pain to me, mine started about 16 weeks which is mega early and was horrendous. I’ve lesrnt to manage it now. Try a warm bath and sleep with a pillow between your knees xx

Sounds a bit like my pelvic girdle pain. Definitely speak to the midwife and she should refer you to a physio. If you Google pelvic girdle pain you'll come across lots of do and don't advice. For me, I think what brought it on was swimming too much breaststroke, and using the cross-trainer at the gym. I didn't realise it was a bad idea until the damage was already done! I didn't get it until 32 weeks though.
Keeping active is really important but basically the advice the physio gave me was that anything that makes it hurt is making it worse. So short gentle walks are good but don't overdo it... gentle swimming but not breastoke legs... avoid stairs if possible... avoid carrying or pushing heavy items (supermarket trollies!) And have a pillow or two between your legs while you sleep. There's also a tubi-grip band you can wear but I didn't like it so didn't. Hope you manage okay!

Take it easy until then!

Harrypotterfan1604 · 17/09/2018 20:00

Yes take it easy, I had to take a couple of days off work to rest up when I first got it. Was having 2 warm baths a day and found it really did help. I’m 24 weeks now and the pain comes and goes some days it’s awful other days like today it’s not even bothering me. Hope you get some relief

AliceRR · 17/09/2018 20:53

Thanks. Unfortunately we don’t have a bath at present! We had the bathroom redone a few months ago (before pregnant) and took out eb bath in favour of a huge shower. We are planning to move but not sure whether it will be before baby comes, realistically.

I will just try to rest when it’s bad. Some days have been worse than others. If needs be I can work from home sometimes if that will help.

Try a maternity support belt, helped me loads.

Oh and even with that don't be sad like me and try to run to catch a bus when 6 months pregnant Blush, it's not worth it.

AliceRR · 18/09/2018 18:16

Thanks @fullofnothing I’ll look into that, seems like it might help

I have run for a train before now!
