Anterior Placenta

I recently had a scan at 18 weeks, baby is looking great but the placenta is right up front on my stomach. Has anyone had any experience with this, anything I should avoid doing? I've already had a fall and I'm more concerned now about landing and somehow knocking it.

I know I'm being a stress head but just some experience with this would be great x

I have an anterior placenta this time currently 35+5 I've not necessarily had to be over cautious of my belly as there is still alot protecting it, it mainly affects you being able to feel babys movements. Just be mindful of course, but i wasn't told anything in particular just may not feel baby as much as its like a big cushion! (Although i have had quiet days when he does move alot i can still feel it as he has got bigger they are quite strong but depends on his position aswell.) If you are ever worried always get checked though, congratulations 😊

I've had this with both pregnancies. As PP poster says it doesn't effect anything other than cushioning the feelings of some movements so nothing to worry about xx

Thank you :) that does help. I haven't felt much at all yet and I assumed it would be a bit more awkward feeling anything when she told me the placenta was there. She's healthy and that's what matters :)

I had it with my eldest, you may not feel much or as early. Only minor thing I'd be worried about is I think it made my baby end up back to back later on, and I'd be keeping an eye on position near the end of pregnancy and potentially looking on (eg) spinning babies to see how you can help get baby into an optimal position (but then I'd recommend that to anyone)

I have an anterior placenta and the midwives haven’t made a single comment about it! (I’m 28+4)

Awesome. I feel a lot better now. Thanks everyone!

Mine is anterior, it doesn’t make any difference at all other than as PPs have said it can take longer to feel movements. I didn’t feel movements until just over 20 weeks (first baby) but soon felt them regularly after that!

I also have an anterior one, they are pretty common. As others have said, they can sometimes make it harder to feel baby but they only become a major problem if it is covering the cervix towards the end and even then they mostly move out of the way before the baby arrives.
