Can too much movement be a bad thing? Or is labour coming soon???

Hi Girls
The last couple of days my baby really has not stopped moving!! Its constant and quite big movements. I don't know if its trying to change position (currently OP) but I just wanted to check that lots of movement is OK.
Plus last night I was having Braxton Hicks for a good few hours. Now I'm really paranoid the baby is going to come soon!!

your baby is probably just running out of room to move that is why the movements are more prominent, you might also notice a foot sticking out. I think Braxton Hicks are normal for now, if it is your first baby I think it will unlikely that it will come soon, unless you have reason to believe there is something wrong, in which case I would suggest you get yourself checked out.

I think they say braxton hicks are normal unless they start coming more than four an hour, or are painful. Not sure about the movement thing but as far as I've read, as long as the movements aren't frantic it's fine.

If he's moving that much it just means he still has plenty of room to move around. I think after about 34 weeks they have less space and slow down.

Thanks girls- thought I was being silly. I think lack of sleep is turning me into a paranoid zombie!

Yes, if it gets really mad in there, do ring the midwife, no wish to scare anyone but I read someone's post on an American forum who said they had a massive lot of movement followed by silence...it turned out the baby had been tangled in the cord, and didn't make it

I never knew that but I'm glad I do now.

could anyone tell me if bleeding at 37 weeks means.I got checked out by doctor but all was fine. help please

bananabump · 10/06/2007 14:17

I'll bump this one for you, but if you got checked by your doctor and they said all was well then don't worry.

If it was light bleeding, I've read that sometimes they don't know why it happened, but it could be some small trauma to the cervix (which is sensitive because of the weight of the baby etc on it) during sex or after an internal examination or whatever. It could just be a sign that having the baby might not be too far away!

FA- Wow thats scary. Movement been a lot less today but I am still feeling it, albeit not as much. I will keep a really close eye on it and if I don't feel it for more than an hour or 2 and I can't make it move I will call the hospital. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Pretty sure that it isn't the case but will keep a very watchful eye on it.
Thanks again to everyone that replied.

Emeraldeyes- If I were you I would call the delivery suite to be on the safe side. I know the GP said all OK but I would call the hospital as they are more specialised in this area. (To be honest I wouldn't even tell them you'd seen your GP). For your sanity and peace of mind I'd get them to check it out.

Hi emeraldeyes - I bled at 37 weeks (maybe more 38 wks) with my DS - I was really scared by it and went to the hospital as I was still bleeding. They scanned me and said not to worry but they couldn't explain it. I was told that sometimes these things just happen.

Not in any way meaning to worry you but at 40+4 I then had an antepartum haemorrage and it was a much bigger bleed than the earleir one. We went straight to the hospital and they were just about to do a c-section when the bleeding unexpectedly stopped. So they induced labout instead. Again it was unexplained but they think it may have been the placenta coming away a tiny bit. Either way, it was really nothing to worry about in the end, just a little scary. If anything further happens I'd go to the hospital to be checked.
