Pram Help Please

Hi,

I'm finding pram shopping such a minefield! There are just too many options and they all seem wrong! Please help!

The front door to my building is up about 6 steps which I need to be able to carry the pram up.

Our flat is up another flight, I can leave the frame downstairs so I was thinking to get one with a detachable carry cot?

We live in London, no need for rough terrain... most important is agility and lightness.

I really don't want to spend a thousand pounds... there must be something good on the market for us...

Thank you for any advice!

@DappledThings wow!! Did she secure the fittings correctly? Or did the frame just collapse. My yo-yo has been through two kids, numerous flights and traversed many cities and never has that happened to us. Poor friend and glad to hear baby was caught. I hope she got refund. I have a Quinny system as well and the yo-yo is total my go to pram for city living.

Stella I'm sure she would have been using the straps correctly. It was the chassis, just clean broke. She took it back (John Lewis) and swapped it for a Bugaboo Bee which I think she's been very happy with since.

Bugaboo Bee - it's the perfect city pram.

We also have a Yoyo for holidays and although it is a very good pram, there are so many ways in which the Bee is better - easier to recline seat, front and rear facing, more solid, more storage, interchangeable accessories for different weather... I could go on.

We also live in London in a flat and have been so happy with the Bee.

If it is too much brand new - get one second hand! :)

Bugaboo bee or icandy raspberry. I know the bee is very popular with people who live in cities as it's so light and flexible.

I have just bought a Phil and Ted Mod which is designed for city life. It has a carrycot which unclips easily and a car seat can be attached easily. It folds down in half width ways rather than flat so it super small. I bought it as nothing else would fit in my car boot.
I haven’t used it yet as I’m not due til Dec. It was approx £350 recently with the car seat included but that might have been a short time offer. It’s not expensive anyway.
Good luck!

Any of the baby jogger range are excellent and fairly priced

We have the city mini GT with detachable deluxe carrycot. Such an excellent city buggy and rides beautifully. One hand fold. It’s a workhorse which is amazing considering how light it is (others in the range are much lighter)

It's worth looking at the Uppababy cruz. The carrycot easily removes with one hand and you can always set that on the floor whilst you fold the frame. it stands on it's own when folded and is quite slim so will take up less space in the communal hallway. We are getting the Vista which is bigger but our friends who live in a similar sounding building to yours have the cruz and rave about it.

I have the Baby Jogger city mini GT and definitely wouldn’t be able to carry it up 6 steps, it is really heavy.

I think the Bugaboo Bee could be a good option but haven’t owned one myself. I have an Oyster Zero which is a great stroller that you can attach a carry cot tooand is light to carry. Not sure how the carry cot attaches though as I’ve never used one with mine.

Bugaboo Bee sounds like a good option. Much better buying a decent pram second hand than a rubbish one from new. There is a Bugaboo selling page on Facebook. You'd be looking at around £300 for a Bee3.

I hate my bugaboo bee, it’s faulty heavy for what it is. The basket isn’t that big, the handle clips need replacing often because they wear out due to pulling the handles to open the buggy. It doesn’t cope with any bumps very well even small ones. The wheels get caught on the smallest of things. It doesn’t have great curb pop for up and down curbs. They are very pretty but not very practical in my eyes.

MynameisJune · 17/09/2018 11:22

Fairly heavy! Stupid autocorrect

I wouldn’t carry any buggy up 6 flights if ateps with my baby in it alone- so dangerous!

Just unclick the bassinet- leave the baby in the hallway while you pop down the steps to fold up and carry up the frame. This period will last about 4/5 months Max. Then you’ll need to take your baby out, carry them in one arm while you fold the buggy with the other arm. You need a one hand fold for this- I think the bee and baby joggers are market leaders for one hand fold. Uppababy, other bugaboos icandy etc will be no good as you won’t be able to manage after 4/5 months. So look for anything with a one hand fold.
