If baby is transverse lie at 37 weeks what happens?

At my last midwife appointment the baby decided to be transverse. I've now got a scan on Monday to check the position, I'll be 37 weeks. I keep reading about EVCs and hospital admissions and c-sections (which I really don't want as I have a 2yr old dd to look after) and I'm worried what they might say if baby's still transverse at the scan. If yours was transverse this far along what did the hospital do/suggest?

No experience of this myself I’m afraid but I do know that there’s still time for baby to change position and I expect they’ll wait and see if it does before doing any interventions.

Check out Spinning Babies for advice and exercises to encourage baby to change position. I’d do those religiously if I were you and hope for the best!

Good luck.

Thanks, I've already checked out spinning babies amongst others and trying a few things.

Ah OK, that’s good, and sorry I have nothing new to add!

How was your dd’s birth?

Waters went first, long induction, back to back labour, epidural, episiotomy, lots of stitches, could have been better. Really hoping this one will go a bit more smoothly, don't want to end up with a c-section after doing my best to avoid one last time. She was back to back for weeks before and nothing would turn her.

My baby was suddenly transverse at 35+5. I had another scan at 36+5 and was told I'd have to be admitted if it was still transverse. Never found out how the baby would be delivered if transverse or if they'd attempt an ECV, as the baby was breech at 36+5... Had an ECV at 37+5 but the baby was too comfortable sitting upright! Now having a planned caesarean on Tuesday. It's taken me some time to get my head around this, but it's OK. My SIL has recently had a caesarean and she has a very active toddler but is coping fine. Also bear in mind that transverse lie at term is extremely rare!

PS: there is very little evidence that adopting certain positions will make the baby turn (although the RCOG does acknowledge it might make mothers feel betterSmile). I'm inclined to think that if a 6' tall 15stone consultant couldn't do it by brute force, then me dangling upside down won't eitherGrin
