how far are you gone now Liesel?
Lie down with your legs up (on the wall)?
foot-bath in cold water and salt?
I don't know, just guessing...

What franca suggests is what the midwife told me to do. To be honest though it didn't make a great deal of difference.

thegardener · 08/06/2007 23:27

try putting your legs up against a wall /door, thats supposed to be good for your legs so maybe your feet too?

francagoestohollywood · 08/06/2007 23:29

You are nearly there then ! Go on then, lie down with a magazine and put your feet up

francagoestohollywood · 08/06/2007 23:30

you are nearly there then . I think that sitting down is the worst position for blood circulation in the legs. So go on, lie down with a magazine and put your feet up!!!

francagoestohollywood · 08/06/2007 23:30

what happened????

LynetteScavo · 08/06/2007 23:31

A bag of frozen peas on elevated legs?

mrsmalumbas · 08/06/2007 23:35

Immersion in water the best thing - i.e go swimming and stay in the water as long as you can, or a deep bath as long as you can. Ultimately though the effect will only be temporary. Keep moving, salt your food to taste, stay well hydrated. As soon as you have the baby you will piss like a cow for a couple of days and then be right as rain.

Help and advice needed! I'm only 22 weeks and yet my ankles (in the past two days) have got really swollen. is it normal to have this so early? i do live in Rome, so it's pretty hot here. I slept last night with my legs raised on a stack of six pillows but they're still puffy this morning...

Thanks v much

mandler · 15/06/2007 10:38

Hi Tallis, I am 22 weeks too and yesterday my left ankle was elephant-like! Very uncomfortable. So you are not alone!

morocco · 15/06/2007 10:46

hi tallis
i remember this - poor you. the heat is a real bummer for swelling legs. can you do a cooling footbath? i used to like that.
no meaning to worry you but do also watch out for swelling in face etc in case of pre eclampsia though i'm sure it's just due to the heat

LieselVentouse · 15/06/2007 11:16

I would get it checked out anyway

hello again - thanks, you two. i took myself off to the doctor this afternoon. Baby heartbeat strong and steady at 140bpm and my blood pressure is actually lower than before - 100 over 60. So i guess it's just fat ankles rather than galloping pre-eclampsia, but the doc going to take another look at monday. Am sitting here with my ankles up in the air....they really are incredibly puffy. Sigh. Awful to think might have another 18 weeks of this!

Tallis · 15/06/2007 17:36

Oops, sorry. "You three" that should have read. Mandler, that's odd it's just one ankle! mine are both pretty much straight down from knee to toe. Feels very odd as I go downstairs and the skin kind of tautens over the puffiness. Yuck.

LIZS · 15/06/2007 17:38

drink loads of water , seems odd but it works.

mandler · 15/06/2007 19:06

both swollen tallis but one worse than the other. my mum claims to have had elephant feet when preggers so prob hereditary! I had bp checked on Monday and was fine, I should keep an eye on it though. Good luck!

AllBuggiedOut · 15/06/2007 19:11

Put a cushion under your mattress to raise it, so you sleep with your feet up. My GP recommended it, and the following morning was the first time I'd recognised my feet in ages, it was miraculous!

Alfie72 · 15/06/2007 23:19

We circle our feet clockwise and anti clockwise and the same with our hands in yoga, it is meant to be good for reducing swelling. Also heard that a liquidised cucumber ( i.e put a de skinned cucumber through a blender) helps reduce water retention. If it is becoming a big problem or really painful, I would see your m/w or GP

Tallis · 16/06/2007 06:36

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I shall wiggle my feet and liquidise a cucumber first thing today. (I assume I'm to eat the cucumber, rather than smear it anywhere puffy...?) And thanks for the great tip about putting the pillows under the mattress. I had a great tower on top of the bed last night and by the morning they'd all collapsed. Durrr.

Alfie72 · 16/06/2007 08:10

Ooops, sorry yes, you drink the liquidised cucumber as it's a natural diuretic.
