Booking Appointment - Help Please!

Hi everyone, I have my booking appointment in just under a fortnight (25th September)

I'm a massive control freak (not proud) and was wondering if anyone has any tips on questions to ask during the appointment?

I've got a couple of really rare medical conditions, so I've found some midwife guidance to take along (as a lot of medical professionals give me a blank stare when I mention the conditions), and they do have implications for pregnancy

I've been scouring good old google for something like a booking appointment checklist, but to no avail!

I'm also wondering what info I should have written down and ready to take, such as family medical stuff, as my memory is awful

I like to be prepared but I'm not feeling it right now!

Any help appreciated :)

Nothing to ask really? They do all the asking it’s a drawn out appointment wanting to know yours and your other half’s medical history etc and she’ll book your 12 week scan xx

Firstly stop worrying.

It's a chance to meet your community midwife and them to meet you.

You will talk about yours and your husbands/ partners family history - Youl work through a list of conditions in the pregnancy notes so no need to 'remember' things as the list is a trigger if that makes sense.

If you have any questions between now and then just make a note of them but equally if you have no questions at this stage don't worry.

It really is a long and boring appointment on the whole Blush

It would be helpful to jot down family history, in case you forget. Other than that, it is a quite general chat and they measure height and weight and take blood.
You'll have many more appointments to discuss questions as they arise. Please don't worry about it.

If you are considered high risk due to your medical history the midwife will refer you to an obstetrician. The obstetrician will then decide whether any other specialties need to be involved.

As others have said, it's just to give them all your medical history, for them to decide on your risk level (based on your health, medical history etc), and for them to take blood and urine samples. They also normally give basic info about health in pregnancy (foods to avoid etc). If you think of any questions that you should have asked afterwards, you can always ring up and ask.

Is it your booking appt or pre booking? Where I work you go for a pre booking where they advise you of screening available and give you a form to fill out which goes through medical history, that then gets transferred onto hand held notes at the full booking - that appt can be an hour long so there will be time to go through everything. And if you have pre existing conditions, you'll be referred to an obstetrician
