15 weeks pregnant - when will I feel better?

Since around 7 weeks pregnant I have been suffering from nauseous all day and being physically sick sometimes multiple times a day. In the last week the physical sickness has subsided but not stopped but I still feel nauseous from morning to night and am eating very little due to no appetite or the idea of eating making me feel sick. I was prescribed anti-emetic medication which helps to an extent but side effect is feeling hungover from taking. I was signed off work for two weeks by GP as I got very run down with mouth and lip ulcers due to vomiting, and I was due to go back to work but still feel terrible. I feel exhausted and it’s starting to make me feel very low and it’s not a nice feeling. Can anyone advise if they have had similar experiences/when it gets better?

I had awful nausea but wasn't actually sick. Doesn't sound as bad as yours though. I am now 19 weeks and haven't felt sick for about 3 weeks now but I know everybody is different.

I tried sticking to really bland food like chicken and rice or potatoes. Sounds boring but it was one of the only meals that didn't make me feel sick. Try drink plenty of water and if you wake up durning the night have a biscuit so your stomach doesn't get too empty. I found it was worse when my stomach was empty. Also if I had a bad nights sleep that's when it was worse too so try get plenty of rest.

I didn't think it would ever end but now my eating is back to normal. I think it's when the placenta takes over the hormone production in the second trimester that you start to feel better, that's what I read anyway. I had a massive breakout in spots which is when I think this happened for me and that's when I started feeling better.

I also got sickness around week 7 and mine lasted until week 17. I was sick to the point of choking, coming out of my mouth and nose at same time and not being able to breathe properly, multiple times a day (at least 6+ times a day on average). I Would eat and food would instantly come up like baby throwing up milk. I also found sickness worse when hungry and the only thing I could eat without throwing up was fries!

Bizarrely, i was never once physically sick at work and i work a demanding job, i think it acted as a really good distraction. The medicine i was prescribed didn't help at all.

Since then i've only been sick twice, once was after gurgling mouthwash and i think it went slightly too far back and the other was the smell of eggs bizarrely and was in the middle of a packed restaurant. I'm very glad to say i'm nearing the end and rarely feel sick now.

All i can suggest is focus on the positive - i know that's hard when you feel weak and rubbish all the time. Hopefully it will pass for you. Also a side note, don't brush your teeth immediately after being sick as you'll brush off the enamel from the acidity on the teeth. Also avoid orange juice, even now i don't like it anymore because of the pain/burn of the acid.

Thank you for comment. I am trying to eat potatoes as bland food but will try the rice as well. It’s just the idea of eating good turns my stomach but as you say it is probably worse when my stomach is empty. When did you stop feeling exhausted? I slept for eight hours last night and woke up feeling like I could get another eight hours

I’m glad to hear that other people have had similar experiences with sickness being so bad - sometimes it’s just when you’ve had a drink and I’ve had days where I can’t even keep down water which is horrible. I hope it might improve in a week or so. I work in a hospital which is why I’ve not wanted to go into work when feeling like this.

i never suffered with tiredness so i got off lightly there. I can see why that'd be very difficult job to work!

Sickness unfortunately can't be controlled but is there other ways you could perhaps make yourself feel a bit better, mentally i mean? Painting nails, a foot rub, a blow-dry? (by someone else of course!)

I really don't know what to suggest because for me it was just like waking up one day and it had miraculously stopped but try make yourself feel good in other ways as it might help on the mental side of things. Wishing you well

I stopped feeling exhausted around the same time I stopped feeling sick. I still don't get much sleep though because I need to get up and wee every few hours during the night. I'll take that any day though over feeling sick.

Everybody says you don't get sleep when the baby comes but don't warn you about not getting sleep before the baby is here.

I also found ice cold water made me feel a little better too. If it wasn't icy cold I still felt thirsty. I bought a big bottle and kept filling it up and kept it in the fridge. Maybe try ginger and lemon tea too. It worked a little for me but I'm not that keen on the taste of ginger.

Thank you. I’ve joined a leisure centre and did manage to swim to evenings last week as I do tend to feel better after about 8pm but this week haven’t managed. Will definitely try doing other stuff when I feel more like it to perk myself up. Thanks for comments. It does help to offload as some people you speak to say they had no problems and paint pregnancy as this wonderful feeling, where they’ve been glowing but so far it’s the complete opposite!

I am seven weeks pregnant on my third and I have constant nausea. It's horrible. I was told today that I looked "a bit green " by another mum outside the school today so obviously I look like absolute shit as well. For me it gets worse as the day goes on. I absolutely sympathize OP.

Adnama1234 · 12/09/2018 17:31

I’ve been given a different medication by GP today- was on promethazine but today have been prescribed cyclizine which I’m hoping might be better.

I didn't feel better until 18/19 weeks. I was on medication, barely eating and feeling sick all the time. Basically one day it was just gone and now I can't stop eating! I lost a stone over those 18 weeks because I just felt awful. There were many tears, days of work and cancelled dates wth friends because I felt like death but feeling good now! It's not helpful to hear now (I wanted to punch someone everytime I read it) but it will end x

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 12/09/2018 20:16

Honestly?! I didn’t feel better until about a month after my c-section. Felt sick the entire time and it took a long time to get my appetite back. Silver lining was no issue getting back into pre-pregnancy clothes! I hope things get better for you soon, just keep reminding yourself that it is worth it.

Adnama1234 · 12/09/2018 20:35

Thanks for your honesty! It’s refreshing as most people I have spoken to have told me how well they felt throughout pregnancy and it was the birth itself that was difficult. Glad to hear you feel better after birth

Thank you. Glad to hear there is an end!

About 2 weeks after I gave birth Grin

SinkGirl · 12/09/2018 20:40

I felt so ill until about week 17, I was having twins and they did a number on me. Had a lot more energy and no nausea after that but it was quickly replaced with SPD and increasing braxton Hicks. I didn’t enjoy pregnancy at all!

JurassicAdventure · 12/09/2018 22:02

About 10 seconds after DD was born.
I could (mostly) keep down full fat coke and ready salted crisps. Unfortunately at 20 weeks I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes so no coke or crisps. After that I had babybels and cheese strings, they stayed down about 10% of the time. I must be the only person who gained weight after DD was born!

JurassicAdventure · 12/09/2018 22:04

(but the birth was fine, and I was so happy to be able to eat again!)

8DaysAWeek · 12/09/2018 22:15

Stopped for me at about 16-17 weeks. Hopefully you are nearing the end! I did worry it would be a constant thing, particularly as the weeks continued to pass after the elusive end of first trimester finishing line everyone spoke of. But it did pass. The tiredness remained and I developed hip pain but I'd take that any day over the constant nausea and vomiting.

7 weeks with number 2 and I've been vomited 3-4 times a day and lost 2kg in the last week so... Not getting out of it second time round apparently!

beccii161016 · 12/09/2018 23:32

I really hope things get better for you OP.
I'm currently 20+2 and have been experiencing morning sickness since 7 weeks. I am still experiencing it however it has gotten better in the way that it tends to be a little more spontaneous now rather than constantly feeling sick to my stomach.

Still not pleasant and have an iffy tummy most mornings but I think I'm just Unlucky this time round and will have it all the way through! Hoping this isn't the case for you but if so, it should begin to get better hopefully as you go along. Good luck Thanks

Thatstheendofmytether · 12/09/2018 23:35

Yes had the same experience and no was sick both times for 9 months solid. Used yo sit and cry about it and was vomiting while in labour. Good luck OP how your disappears at some point like everyone promised me.
