How hot will postnatal ward be in nov/dec?

Due to have dc2 by elcs end of nov/beginning of Dec. Dc1 was born during a very hot May so I just wore a long vest as a nightie. I’ve bought a long sleeved front opening nightie for this birth but now I’m wondering if it will be too much and I’ll be sweltering..

I had dd in October and wore a vest top and pj trousers on the ward and was hot. I had the windows wide open in labour and it was blowing a gale!

They keep the temp setting at lava year round so its always too hot in hospitals for me. Go with several light layers you can add or remove.

short sleeved light nightie, slipper socks, cotton or jersey thin dressing gown, one of those big rectangular shawl/scarf things, they do them in primark for about £5.

I had a 5 day stay and every day was different as I think they were experimenting.

i honestly think all hospital wards ive ever been on are boiling, especially post natal. they keep them warm for the babies but combined with the hormones post birth and night sweats i was constantly boiling.

Close to tropical in my experience. I wore nothing but a sheet in the end and that was only up to my waist whilst I was feeding DD. Obviously had the curtain shut!

Somewhere just below sauna levels Grin

I'm curious about this because my experience was the same, but as soon I left all the info I came across was clear not to overheat baby - yet in the ward she was in a sleepsuit, two blankets and a hat at about 40 degrees!

I know it's because the babies have literally just left the snug womb but it seems excessive

My Christmas baby and I got heat rash on the post-natal ward. We were moved into a single room and I immediately opened the window. Kept it open, despite sleet and determined auxiliaries, and our rashes cleared up within a few hours.

So pack the same clothes as for midsummer, plus a snowsuit for going home.

Immigrantsong · 11/09/2018 18:55

It's always the same temperature:boiling!

Son born 4th November last year. I wore a spaghetti strap thin cotton nightie that came mid thigh. With a thin short sleeved cotton dressing gown. More than warm enough! Even demanding fans to cool down

Thanks for all the replies, I may have to have a rethink then! Grin

I've had three winter babies and never found it too hot on the ward. There's a photo of me with one of mine where I'm wearing a fluffy cardigan, and another in a thick dressing gown!

GreenMeerkat · 11/09/2018 19:40

I've had one in October and one in May. Both hot!

Theweasleytwins · 11/09/2018 20:00

I had mine in a january- boiling

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 11/09/2018 21:13

@Theseptemberissues I got mine in the m&s summer sale at around this time of year. Really nice a few sizes bigger as not maternity but literally pennies. Tbh I still use them now. The nightie is my go to for when I'm feeling really awful and just need a comfy night and the dressing gown is lovely.

MooFeatures · 11/09/2018 21:15

It's permanently hotter than hell. I don't know where you're booked at, but I can tell you with absolute certainty that's how it'll be!
