I’m thinking of getting a baby sling and I was wondering if anyone has recommendations please?

I think alot of it comes to personal choice....is there a local sling library where you could go and try some or rent for a week or so before buying?

With DD when she was newborn to 6 month ish I had the Close for quick in n outs like if I was just nipping to the shop. Moby for slightly longer carries. But when she got heavier I didn't like wraps and the faff of tying and had a Connecta

Loved our connecta (now called Integra). But def get yourself to a sling library. What I find comfy you may hate and vice versa.

Just watch some of the popular high street carriers - a lot of them are no good.

Everyone is different, but I agree with @thismeansnothing. The first 4 to 6 months I preferred a stretch wrap as it's easier to get them out for feeding or changing. After that time, a soft structured carrier, as they are heavier and it's less faff to get on. I really like Lenny Lamb carriers. I've used many types, including Connecta. Having baby 3 any day now...

I liked a stretchy initially I got a cheapo one from amazon as I'm not a fan of two way stretch. But a sling library is definitely the best idea.

Close caboo is a lovely first sling.
Can be used from newborn.
See if you can find a sling library near you and try one out.
If you find it (or a different sling) suits you, you can get them 2nd hand quite reasonably priced.

If you are totally new to slings and baby wearing, it would be good to have a proper chat with someone at a sling library so they can go through good positioning of baby with you and explain why some carriers are better in this respect than others.

Our library is great and she has drop in sessions you can go to before or after baby just for tips and advice.

They also hire carriers too so you can try them out for a bit

Thank you for your help 😊
I’d be very surprised if there’s a sling library near where I live but I will certainly check.
I like the look of the stretch wrap slings the best as they look comfier for baby and me 😊

I'd borrow one or get a cheap second hand one to try first. My baby HATED all forms of soft wrap/ sling so that was £40 down the drain for me. He was happy being carried but he wouldn't tolerate anything confining his arms and legs. They're all different...!

I brought a stretch wrap sling from Amazon which was very cheap and suited my baby in the first few weeks. She would drop off straight away in it and it felt very comfy to wear. She's now getting a bit more control of her head and I didn't feel that she was as secure in the stretch sling so I brought a Stokke 3-in-1 carrier from Facebook marketplace for £30. I'm a big fan because it feels more secure and is very easy to get on and off. It will also grow with her. My DD is still getting used to the new carrier but will fall asleep in it so I think it will serve us well!

Look to see if you have a local sling library
They're a great way to try out different slings and find the one you like best before shelling out money. We had a close caboo for the new born stage and just round the house but used and still do (DS is almost 3) use an ergo 360 which I love. I also have a couple of woven wraps which I used for front carries but never quite felt secure in them for back carries as I just couldn't get the seat to stay.

FlaviaAlbia · 11/09/2018 19:27

I tried a moby wrap and a connecta and couldn't get on with either of them but I've just got a boba carrier and I love it.

I think I'm too short for wraps, I just end up with miles of fabric on the floor while I get tangled in them...

SnuggyBuggy · 11/09/2018 19:30

I use a pre tied stretchy wrap with my DD.

We love our ergo and used from a couple of weeks old with our little one (with new born insert). Little one is now nearly 2 and we still use it all the time for long dog walks, when he gets tired of walking we can just pop him on our back in the ergo, I think weight wise you can use it that way until they are 4. I also used a solly baby wrap around the house when he was tiny and loved that.
