I went to hospital today as I found out I was pregnant a couple of days ago ; I went in there due to pains and he took a pregnancy test and according to him he couldn't see another line which made me worry.

I got home and thought ah I'll do another one of my own to see what happens when I do it.

So I got this....

Telling me I'm not pregnant! Got to be a joke hasn't it?

Doctors are useless!!!!

If it was a dilute sample of urine or the tests they have at the hospital weren’t as sensitive then it might have shown negative there. That’s not the doctor’s fault.

Nutkins24 · 08/09/2018 19:37

Have you actually missed a period? I can’t see how they can diagnose a proper pregnancy until that point because it could be a chemical pregnancy which is very common. Maybe that’s what he was getting at?

AssassinatedBeauty · 08/09/2018 19:46

I would imagine the test used in hospital wasn't as sensitive as the ones you've used at home. Or as PP have said, your urine was more dilute. It really isn't the doctor's fault, and if you were sent home then presumably they weren't concerned about anything sinister.

If you are pregnant then you may be counting on those 'useless' doctors- doctors are not useless- and this is certainly not their fault.

surreygirl1987 · 08/09/2018 23:32

Doctors are useless? Seriously??! It makes me so sad to hear anyone make a statement like this:(

Nothisispatrick · 08/09/2018 23:35

What kind of pains? Any bleeding? You can get lots of pains in early pregnancy, really not necessary to go to hospital at each twinge.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 08/09/2018 23:41

Well it was the test that said you weren’t pregnant, wasn’t it? The doctor can only read what it says on the test they have available. How is this the doctors fault?

physicskate · 09/09/2018 09:47

Pain used to wake me up in early pregnancy. Several times. Up until at least 6 weeks. I'm currently 14+2 with a healthy wriggler (so far).

Doctors made this possible for me (ivf). The fact that early on you had a negative pregnancy test has literally nothing to do with the doctor but everything to do with that test.

Maybe some docs don't have amazing bedside manner and that's what you're more upset about? We're all human after all...

sexnotgender · 09/09/2018 09:49

Guess you won’t need a doctor at any point in your pregnancy then. Good luck with that...

CherryAide · 09/09/2018 09:55

Doctors are useless? Hmm

Maybe medically their test wasn't as sensitive. Maybe they want you to wait a little while until you've missed a period. The NHS clearly can't afford to give everyone super sensitive FRER tests when you can go out and buy one yourself. What was the bloke supposed to do? Give you a blood test which costs even more and isn't the done thing anymore? You were in hospital, not at your GP. If you want ongoing care to determine what is going on, go to your GP. If you want to know that your life is not in danger, you're not in need of urgent medical attention and you can go about your day, then go to hospital.

Pregnancy is stressful, especially in the beginning but it doesn't mean doctors should have x ray vision. Give it a few days, do another test, go to your GP if still worried.

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/09/2018 13:18

A few pains are normal in early pregnancy. Unless you’re bleeding or they are very bad then there is no need to go to hospital. It’s not the doctor’s fault that the test did not pick up the hormone.

Bohemond · 09/09/2018 13:25

Got to be a joke that you went to hospital with a few pains surely?...

Taylor22 · 09/09/2018 13:27

Why did you got to the hospital?

Maybe they were annoyed you wasted their time.

PinkDaffodil2 · 09/09/2018 13:33

I guess the reason the doctor did the test was to rule out the pains being a ruptured ectopic - which he did because if you were far along enough for a ruptured ectopic then the hospital test would be positive even if your itinerary was dilute. You went to A&E with pains, they excluded any emergency, you’ve gone home safe. What else do expect from an emergency department? Congratulations on being a few weeks pregnant and I’m glad your pains have settled.
