Is it worth getting a nappy bin?

Is it worth buying a nappy bin or would you not bother?

I would say yes, all the nappies are contained, it doesn't smell and is easy to empty. Not messy. Still user mine for nighttime pull ups, my daughter is three

Thetimehascometo · 07/09/2018 18:11

We have one upstairs in our baby’s room and love it. Downstairs we just throw them straight out, but the upstairs bin was a lifesaver in the early days with a pooey breastfed baby!

NoTeaNoShadeNoPinkLemonade · 07/09/2018 18:13

I wouldnt bother...just bag and bin each time...smelly ones straight out the door. Used to have one of those twisty bins with dc1 and it stank to high heaven. I couldnt cope with the task emptying a bin that's been sat there full of steaming poo for over 24hrs

NoTeaNoShadeNoPinkLemonade · 07/09/2018 18:15

although to be a newborns poo would never reek as bad as an older baby that's eating solids...unless you eat weird food and breastfeed (i did)

BertieBotts · 07/09/2018 18:15

Having a pedal bin within throwing reach of the changing table has been really useful. I wouldn't bother with a proper one, especially the ones with the rip off cartridges - you'll notice the bins themselves are often free because the companies hope to hook you into spending £10 a month on them.

TroubledLichen · 07/09/2018 18:16

I would, especially if your outside bin isn’t that accessible. We empty ours on our way out every morning.

GummyGoddess · 07/09/2018 18:17

My DH would say yes, I would say they're horrible. Compromise is that he puts all nappies in and empties it.

QueenCity · 07/09/2018 18:22

No, they stink! Wet ones I always put in a pedal bin and emptied each day. Dirty ones would go in a nappy sack then straight in the wheelie bin.

fruitpastille · 07/09/2018 18:22

Waste of money. Unless possibly someone living in a flat where it's hard to take bad ones outside.

chloechloe · 07/09/2018 18:23

Horrible things, full of festering stinking nappies!

Throw the wet ones in the kitchen bin and bag and bin the dirty ones and throw them straight in the outside bin.

BossWitch · 07/09/2018 18:25

I really liked the twisty bin! It meant there was a couple of days between bin emptying rather than all the bloody time. Didnt find the bin smelly all the time we used the proper twisty stuff - amazing the difference when using just normal nappy bags, then it was properly smelly!

MsHopey · 07/09/2018 18:28

Yes, but I live in an upstairs flat and it was a nappy bin or the kitchen bin.
I know which one I prefer!

FishesThatFly · 07/09/2018 18:29

I had a nappy bin. Complete waste of money and it stank

dinosaurkisses · 07/09/2018 18:32

I'm getting rid of ours once we finish the next ridiculously expensive cassette of bin liners.

It was fine when DD was in size 1/2 nappies and her poo didn't really smell so it didn't need to be emptied too often, but since she's been weaning the idea of putting a dirty nappy anywhere other than straight in the wheely bin is disgusting.

Vintagegoth · 07/09/2018 18:37

I didn't bother with a fancy nappy bin system. Bought a bucket with a lid and put normal bin liners in it next to the changing table. Emptied every day.

MrsEricBana · 07/09/2018 18:40

I did have one of these and found it good at the time but if outside bin very accessible then pedal bin and liner emptied outside regularly would be fine and cheaper.

AaaaaaarghhhWhereAreMyKeys · 07/09/2018 18:49

If your outdoor bin is easily accessible then No but if baby's room is on the top floor of a massive house then it could be quite useful.

Bue · 07/09/2018 18:53

We didn't initially bother but got one once DD was on solids- it's a godsend then as their poo stinks. I have had the exact opposite experience of other posters, the bin doesn't stink, it entirely contains the smell!

LBNM19 · 07/09/2018 21:59

I got one. They stink, i would say no. Best to use nappy sacks.

user1493413286 · 07/09/2018 22:04

Unless you’re willing to take it outside or empty your bin every day. We live in a flat and couldn’t have done without one

ThePricklySheep · 07/09/2018 22:07

I think it depends on your house. We used to dump them outside the back door and do a trip to the wheelie bin once or twice a day.

aperolspritzplease · 07/09/2018 22:11

We had two, one up and one down. They never smelt and they compressed the nappies smaller than if i was chucking them in the outside bin. I have twins so may have been emptying them more than families with only one in nappies. I don't think I'd like to leave proper toddler poo in here for a few days.

Daisy2990 · 08/09/2018 09:21

We had them, mainly because we didn't want our pets attracted to poopy smells in the bin. We found they contained the smell as long as they are emptied regularly. They also save space in the main bin and save you from having smelly nappies loose in there. Horses for courses but I think they're good.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 08/09/2018 09:26

We had one and it was good. Saved traipsing out to the wheelie bin all the time; we put pop down the loo before putting the nappy in the bin anyway. Never smelt.
