I am currently 15 weeks pregnant, since been in the 2nd trimester i have had sever headaches/migraines and some sickness aswell. I didnt experience any of this in my 1st trimester. After going back and forward from the doctors i am struggling to find anything that is helping/getting rid of these headaches. its affecting my work as i get them week in week out, i'm off work at least once a week.
I wondered if anyone had any advice to give or any thing that helped them. i'm at the point of willing to try anything at this stage.
thanks

Fletcher2018 · 07/09/2018 13:12

8 weeks wow Shock they are horrific. the doc has prescribed a type of migraleve today so hopefully these work if I do continue to get them. they make me so miserable as i constantly feel unwell. xx

Hopefully they are checking your bp and urine every time?
Are you having any trouble with your vision?

Manctart · 07/09/2018 13:16

I had them during pregnancy so feel for you. I found the 4head sticks really helpful, you just rub them on an it’s a sort of tiger balm type smell. Not sure if it actually doesn’t anything but it made me feel better to at least try something!

Hope they go soon, I have always had them and I am thinking of getting that piercing now which is sposed to alleviate them but obviously during pregnancy you can’t even try that 😩

Fletcher2018 · 07/09/2018 13:40

my BP is fine, urine is fine as doc was a bit worried to begin with but everything seems normal apart having these debilatating headaches.
i feel like i have to apply pressure to my eyes when i get them really bad. i do have a eye test booked at the end of the month, to rule it out.

oh yes I have started using that 4head thing today, it is good but i dunno how good it would be on a severe headache.

I have always suffered with headaches/migraines all my life. since coming off the pill in January 2017 they really calmed down which was great but since i would say 9th August they have come back with a vengeance

I suffer from headaches and they are constant when I'm pregnant. Please try acupuncture and/or see an osteopath for a cranial- iv found both of these to be really helpful xx

I suffered terrible prior to pregnancy and my daith piercing helped a lot, however I had to have this removed before conception, as your not supposed to get it pierced whilst pregnant I found that the kool and soothe head patches helped a bit xx

I suffer from headaches all the time. I swear by 4 head, it's the only thing that works for me.

Sunshine275 · 07/09/2018 21:18

I had headaches until last week 15wk pregnant then the last 4/5 days I feel ‘normal’ for the first time months. Discuss with midwife at your 16 week check, get them to check your blood pressure. Are you sleeping ok? Stressed? I think mine were a combination of everything x

Katie1962 · 07/09/2018 21:32

I'm 10 weeks and have also had horrific headaches for the past 4 weeks!

It's rubbish because I feel like everyone thinks I'm just whining but they really are horrible.

I'm not glad you're all/have suffered with them but it makes me feel better reading it is actually a thing!

Pomfluff · 07/09/2018 21:39

I'm also really prone to headaches/migraines before pregnancy. Though I had no headaches at all in first trimester, then awful daily headaches in early 2nd trimester (weeks 14 - 18) but they disappeared completely after at. Most likely hormonal so fingers crossed that they'll also get better for you soon! Based on research, second trimester headaches rarely last past week 20. I'm currently week 23 and have only had 2 mild headaches for the past 1.5 months.

What helped me was to drink a full glass of water with magnesium & calcium supplement at the first sign/twinge of pain. (I'm taking separate supplements in place of prenatal vits). Vitamin B6 also helps a lot with nausea/sickness so taking those together was useful. Less healthy but still helpful is drinking a full-fat Coke when the first headachey feeling comes on. Caffeine can stop a headache fairly well, and it less harmful (in moderation) than painkillers.

Lastly, although this is a very rare possibility, were you ever tested for anti-phospholipid antibodies (sometimes called Hughes Syndrome)? This is a blood clotting condition that can pose problems in pregnancy, but also causes frequent headaches since it slows down blood flow. Treatment is easy, you take daily low-dose aspirin or blood thinners which don't harm the baby. I was tested for this due to previous history of headaches/migraines & miscarriages (fortunately negative).

Caffeine worked wonders for me. A can of Coke shifted a terrible headache I'd had for two weeks that paracetamol wasn't touching.

LBNM19 · 08/09/2018 07:14

I got them in the first trimester and it was really getting me down as I had bad sickness to. I would drink water, take paracetmol and i also brought this cream m.origins.co.uk/product/15360/11719/bath-body/sensory/peace-of-mind/on-the-spot-relief i found it helped when putting it on before bed etc. One day they just stopped. I hope you start feeling better soon.

sexnotgender · 08/09/2018 08:12

I had 2 weeks of monstrous headaches weeks 17-19, now 21 and much better! I was demented with them.

Fletcher2018 · 08/09/2018 11:36

Hi all. This is amazing advice and help. I really appreciate it. Weird people say about the coke. I havent stank any fizzy drinks or touched caffefine for about a month and a bit. Which prior to pregnancy i would probs drink it weekly. So i may start to do that as an option. I do have midwife apt next week so i willspeak to her about it aswell. Xx

Hi. I am consultant led as twin pregnancy & other issues. Suffered migraines mist of my life but knew how to cope. Obvs now pg old methods are scrapped. My consultant did say co-codamol is ok in small doses but I was reluctant. I decided to see a sports massage therapist & I've not had a full blown migraine since. I would highly recommend but do discuss with your GP first, and check the person knows how to cope with pg clients, I.e massaging on your side, minimal back time. And as much as the advice irked me, drink lots & lots of water. 2 litres a day is advised I think, more of you can.
