Office Job - When did you go on Mat Leave?

I work in an office, at a desk all day.

My Mat Leave doesn't start for another 6 weeks and I'm due in 7 weeks so working until I'm 39w.

My job is really easy but I'm finding the last couple of weeks so difficult. I'm extremely tired all the time and my brain doesn't seem to be working correctly. I'm so forgetful and have no motivation except to sleep.

I thought I'd have more energy to keep going until my Leave starts but I'm really struggling.

Anyone else in the same or similar boat?

I acknowledged already it’s not law as I said I wasn’t sure. I am talking from personal experience and i worked a big well known organisation that certainly had to conduct themselves legally.

You said you thought it was company policy rather than the law. I was just clarifying that it definitely wasn't the law 😊

I'd be interested to see any links you've got saying that a company can legally do that as I would have thought that was discrimination.
I'm pretty sure that if they think it's too risky to do your job they have to provide alternative duties. I'm aware this is slightly off topic as the OP probably isn't concerned about being able to work that late or not!

PasstheStarmix · 07/09/2018 19:26

Pedantic much? No the well known large organisation I worked for endorced 38 weeks. It wasn’t about you doing your job but more about the risk of you potentially giving birth on the premises I presume. Dh’s organisation (a different one) has the same rule.

PasstheStarmix · 07/09/2018 19:27

Or enforced rather *

ChortleFace88 · 07/09/2018 19:27

I’m planning on finishing at 37 weeks. I have a desk job and a fairly painless commute. I honestly couldn’t think of anything worse than working up to my due date, I’m 28 weeks and already struggling. I hope baby isn’t early as I’m really looking forward to those few weeks of sleeping, relaxing, pottering, reading and Netflix!

PasstheStarmix · 07/09/2018 19:30

Yes it’s off topic so time to put it to bed I think.

Spudlet · 07/09/2018 19:31

I finished at 36 weeks. I had planned to go to 38, but I had SPD and I just couldn't cope with the discomfort of sitting at a damn desk for any longer. I took some annual leave as part of that though so my mat leave didn't kick in immediately.

Girlwiththearabstrap · 07/09/2018 19:32

Don't patronize me. I'm not being pedantic at all. I was genuinely interested to know whether what you were saying was true. A quick read of maternity action's website shows that what your workplace were doing isn't legal.

It's really important for women to know and understand their rights regarding maternity leave and pay, and an employer dictating when you must start maternity leave isn't something that is legal, unless you're off sick after 36 weeks.

Girlwiththearabstrap · 07/09/2018 19:34

@passthestarmix
Cross post. Yep fair enough, off topic.

PasstheStarmix · 07/09/2018 19:34

Girlwiththearabstrap I spoke from personal experience and acknowledged it wasn’t law. Please don’t be so condescending. You were right to point out it’s not law but everything else is overkill.

Girlwiththearabstrap · 07/09/2018 19:58

It is not condescending to point out that a workplace may have acted illegally. I am sorry that you felt that was overkill.

PasstheStarmix · 07/09/2018 20:01

I don’t agree with the way you’re going on, please put it to bed. If you want this debate as you blatenly do than you’d be better. creating a thread.
