When did you want another child?

I've always wanted at least 2 children (maybe 3), but having been through a fairly tough pregnancy, complicated labour and 10 weeks of baby with colic & reflux I can't imagine going through it again. At the same time I don't want just one baby. I know it's still very early days as we probably won't start ttc for another year but I'm just wondering do you really forget all the pain, discomfort and sleepless nights?

Whilst my pregnancy was good my labour had complications and also had a reflux baby. I thought it would take me time to 'forget'. We didn't use contraception from having DS but has took us 5.5 years to conceive no.2. I was more than ready from he was at least 2. The desire for another really outweighed the difficulties last time. Good luck.

We decided to try when DC1 was 5 months (I'm 32, DH is 40) and it took us 8 years to get pregnant. So we were eager to crack on for DC2 straight away as we knew that we'd like them close together, but were unsure how long it would take to get pregnant again!

However I didn't expect to get pregnant on the first try.. which is what happened. We were both absolutely stunned! But now the news has sunk in, we couldn't be happier!

DC1 will be about 14 months when DC2 is born and as this is our last baby, it's a nice thought that they'll be able to grow up so close together.

I didn’t feel anywhere near ready until DC1 was 2. That when we started trying - took us 3 months to conceive. If I’d had a smaller gap I wouldn’t have coped, and all my friends with a 2.5 year or less gap have really struggled.

I think it depends on lots of things, though I would say that a < 1 year gap has been proven to cause a reduced IQ I’m the second baby, as the woman’s body is deleted from the 1st pregnancy

*depleted! Not deleted. Although mine does feel a bit deleted...

I definitely knew I wanted 2 when DS was a few months old. We did have a condom mishap and I took the morning after pill, so I clearly wasn't ready straight away and had the implant put in when DS was around 4 months.
I had it taken out when DS was 10mo, he's been pretty amazing and I knew then if I was having a second I wanted them to be close in age.
I had to wait to have my first proper period after implant removal (it took 8 weeks) and then got pregnant on the first month of trying.
I still can't believe it. I'm nearly 6 weeks pregnant and DS is 13mo!

We knew we wanted 2, but the thought of being pregnant again and having 2 close together terrified me for most of dd1s first year. Then she turned 1 and it was like a switch flipped, suddenly i was broody again.

We wanted a 2.5 - 3 year gap and it took 9 months to conceive dd1, so started trying when she was 18 months. It ended up taking 15 months and our age gap is actually 3.5 years. 6 weeks in and so far its so much easier the second time around!

ParkheadParadise · 06/09/2018 11:03

I always knew I didn't want to have anymore after dd1.
I had her when I was really young.
Met DH and still didn't want to have anymore.
23 years after having Dd1 along came a massive surprise Dd2.😂😂. I didn't know I was pregnant until I was 5mths.

OzymandiasFanClub · 06/09/2018 11:11

Took me 4 years to begin to contemplate a second child. There's 5 and a quarter years between my 2.
Both pregnancies and births were fine... it was the 2+ years of PND and the 3+ years of sleep deprivation with DS1 that finished me off.
Eventually took a leap of faith. I got extra prenatal care because of the previous PND but there was not even the slightest hint second time around.
Plus DS2 turned out to be a 'normal' sleeper. Much easier second time around even though I was 40.
But that gap was the only way I could manage. They're 11 and 16 now. One has just left secondary school. The other has just started.

Yeah I'm really mixed about whether to just get the next pregnancy 'out of way' (if I'm that lucky to be able to conceive quickly), but then again I'm 38 now so I don't want to wait to long only to discover it might take years! angelmiracle that must have been tough waiting so long, glad it worked out in the end. myotherbagisgucci (love the name!) that's mad it happened so quick second time! Contrats mshopey and nickmarlow
cornelius I never heard that before! Do you think it's really true? 😂

I occasionally feel myself getting broody now dd is 2, but my pregnancy was so so horrendous with HG I know I couldn't be a decent mother to dd if I was pregnant again, I could barely take care of myself. Equally she has only had a month or so of her life where she has slept well, and my mental health cannot take any more sleep deprivation. Add that to worrying about the rising cost of housing, we might be able to buy a two bed in a few years time but a three bed would be out of our price range. It does make me quite sad as I had always wanted 2 or 3.

DieAntword · 06/09/2018 14:11

I knew I wanted more straight away but the timing ...well when my son was 9 months and I knew it was my fertile time I said to husband who was getting frisky that I was fertile and he faltered and I said “would it be so bad?” And the rest is history. This time I’m waiting till my second is 4 or 5 😅
