So I know I might not be in it long, get there with enough time to even settle etc etc but Id like to be able to play some of my music? (Like lady gaga, mcfty, busted, bon jovi, queen etc etc) a pretty randomly made playlist of songs I like.

I feel itd help me relax having my own songs on, anyone else done this?

It'll depend on your hospital but I know most midwife led centers do. Take your own stereo though.

Check with your midwife at next appointment but it's usually fine. Although you may not want it when it comes to it. I put a lot of thought into what calming music I wanted to listen to but despite being in the delivery room for 22 hours I didn't once think to put music on

Yeah Ill ask at my next app, its not even necesarily(?) Calmimg music haha, just songs I like ranging from 80s rock, pop music, punk, musical theatre.... Grin

I know i may not even want it on, just other than no epidural or student midwives I didnt know what else I may want, and then I remembered all the times ive had a bad day, been stressed, had bad dentist visits(lol) ive always had music to zone out to, so thought worth a shot!

Yes really good idea, especially if you find it helps you relax. You might find that there is a radio, possibly even an old stereo in your delivery room already but I would say the easiest thing to do is to take a cheap speaker and an iPhone or iPad (make sure you have chargers! A power bank is a really good idea too in case there aren’t plugs where you want them) so that you can have whatever you like. Your midwife won’t mind at all. It’s your room, and you can do whatever you like (within reason!) to make it the best possible environment for you and your labour.

I did. Took iPod with speaker. DP had made a few playlists. Forgot about it at the start as was in too much pain from induction, but came in useful when labour stalled and DP and I 'danced' together to try and get things going again. Midwives thought it was a great idea - although it didn't work and, ultimately, I had to have an emergency section. Asked if we could play music in operating theatre and they agreed, said it was much nicer than the local radio which they usually had. DD, now 11, loves to listen to the song that she was born to.
