What are the chances I'll get stretch marks?

Currently pregnant with DC2, I was very lucky and didn't get a single stretch mark with DD. I had a fair sized bump but wouldn't have said I was massive, I gained about a stone and a half in total. I used palmers tummy butter every evening which I think helped, but I think the fact that I was 22 and had young stretchy skin helped massively!

I'm now 25, so still young, so if I aim to put on a similar amount of weight, am I in with a good chance of not getting stretch marks this time?

I know with subsequent pregnancies you do tend to gain weight and show much earlier, so I suppose I've got that working against me.

Anyone on here not get any stretch marks with DC1 then go on to get them in subsequent pregnancies?

It won't be a huge deal if I do get them, at the end of the day I won't be the first or last woman to get stretch marks, but if I can avoid them I will.

Just going to try to put on a weight at a steady rate and not go over the top, and keep my skin nice and moisturised.

Like I said I loved the palmers tummy butter and think it really helped, but it was a bit thick and sticky, can anyone reccomend any other products they think are great for preventing stretch marks?

Genuinely think it just depends, I used Palmers mixed with bio oil for all of my first pregnancy, I was only 18 when I was pregnant, my bump wasn't massive but as I approached the end my entire stomach literally ripped with stretchmarks and I'm covered in them now,I was gutted about it.

Didn't get any stretchmarks at all. X2 babies.
Both times I went from a flat stomach size 8/10 (25yrs old & 28yrs) I put on about 2.5 stone both times.

I used moisturiser everyday, twice a day on my belly & legs. Palmers was & still is my fave. Also used pure coconut oil.

My mum had 5 pregnancies & didn't get any stretchies. Different skin type to me though.

None with DC1. A few this time either side of my belly button and hips. Same amount of weight, bio oil used both times. I’m convinced this baby must be a giant!

  • no stretch marks. I feel I was very lucky.
I did use almond oil on bumb both times.

4th pregnancy, at term, no stretch marks - and I've gained a lot more weight this time, am a lot older than first time around, and have been far too hectic for drinking enough water, let alone body butters! I think it's mostly luck of the draw and how you carry.
I did actually get stretch marks on my legs and breasts with puberty so expected more, but none on my stomach yet, touch wood....

Three pregnancies and zero stretchmarks. I think it's down to genetics but I wouldn't have cared if I got them. I've since had major surgery and have a scar right down my front. I'm proud of it.

See, my mum and sister are covered in them! & they both got them in their first, plus a few more in their second and third pregnancies. Plus I have a fair few stretch marks on my hips and thighs from puberty, so I assumed my tummy would be covered in them with my first pregnancy, especially as I went two weeks overdue and during those two weeks this big bump just seemed to pop out overnight? Praying it's maybe that I'm just lucky and have good skin that will stretch nicely in this pregnancy too. Or maybe my first pregnancy was just a fluke and I'll end up covered in them this time.

I'm also really hoping I dont balloon this time. I only really seemed to get bigger around the bump area with DD and was able to shift the few extra pounds id gained after the birth fairly quickly which I credit massively to breastfeeding! I'm trying to be careful not to overeat, but the way I hear it from some other women the weight gain is just uncontrollable in some pregnancies, no matter how sensibly you try to eat.

I guess it's so important to me as I'm getting married next summer, bought my size 10 wedding dress last month, and have to be able to squeeze into it one way or another when I'm 3 months postpartum! Hopefully breastfeeding will work it's wonders again, fingers crossed 🤞

I got none with my first and none with my second. Even though dd2 was 10 pounds. I put it down to drinking loads and loads of water and bio oil everyday.Smile
