Knock to bump at 17 weeks

Earlier today I was putting my jeans on and accidentally hit myself in my bump (you know when you grab and pull your jeans but then lose grip and hit yourself!?)

Anyway it felt forceful but not enough to bruise or anything. I worry about having hit bump. I know it’s well cushioned and I’ve read lots of stories (anxious googling) about all sorts of hits and falls and even car accidents and baby being fine but cannot help but worry.

Feel I have v slight cramping in lower pelvis area but very mild, barely anything, so cannot help but think it’s no more than usual and I am just noticing it more now. Any time I have been anxious about something pregnancy related I have felt mild sensation in abdomen but often think it is in my head!

Just not quite at the stage where I am properly feeling baby move so it’s not like I can just lie down and check it’s moving normally...

I think it’s probably fine but maybe need some reassurance

@AliceRR as you had a bump, are anxious, and concerned about movement, please speak to your midwife tomorrow about a kleihauer-betke test. This will check whether the bumb has resulted in a bleed from the baby into you, which can occur and have devastating consequences; this is regardless of whether you are rhesus positive or negative.

Dopplers also just confirm to uneducated ears that there is a heartbeat but not the waves and other important information pertaining to the health of the baby.

I hope all is well.

@MyGreyCat I’m not really concerned about movement as I have only just (maybe) started to feel movement.

It was just the fact of hitting myself in the stomach which I think is me overthinking but I will be speaking to midwife about it (I did call out of hours midwife when it happened as well)

My baby died from something that usually occurs as a result of a bump (although I didn’t have one). Babies aren’t always that well cushioned, which is why I suggested speaking to your midwife about that particular test. I have a positive blood group as well.

@MyGreyCat I’m really sorry to hear that but I probably shouldn’t have read that before bed!! I was just feeling more calm about things but will speak to MW

I’m sorry, I didn’t think of the timing. What happened to me was very unusual and the odds are everything is absolutely fine with your baby but I’m glad you will be chatting with your midwife.

AliceRR · 05/09/2018 22:05

@MyGreyCat I’m sorry too! I didn’t mean that to sound so insensitive and I appreciate you sharing your experience and I am really sorry you experienced that. I am just so anxious since I’ve been pregnant. I know the odds are everything is fine but I also know there is always a chance of there being something wrong which is why I worry (perhaps more than most!).

The apps are bullshit, just wanted to say. I downloaded one to try last year and it picked up a heartbeat, my baby was very much dead and had been for four weeks... It’s just nonsense expecting a phone recording system to pick up a fetal heartbeat so please don’t rely on that.

Most PP’s are right though, baby’s are well cushioned in there especially at your stage. That knock sounds very light as well. I’ve had scans where they’ve dug into my bump so hard it has seriously hurt but baby is absolutely fine.

AliceRR · 06/09/2018 14:15

@OutPinked I’m so sorry to hear that.

I think you are may be right that the apps probably are rubbish!

I didn’t worry about not being able to hear a heartbeat on it!

I’m going to try to resist getting a Doppler too.

I had my 16w appt today and MW used Doppler for us to hear baby’s heartbeat which was nice.

As for hitting myself she said “did it make you cry?” I said no. She said “did you double over in pain?” I said no. It didn’t really hurt that much.
