Baby bouncer recommendations

There's a million to choose from so I wondered if anyone had any recommendations?
I notice they rather from about £30 with some going up to £400!

Is there any benefits to buying a fancy pants one that's all singing & dancing or is a basic one just as good?

I'm a first time mum so any advice greatly appreciated.

Following! I am also unsure... Do we need a bouncer? A swing? Both? What even is the difference?! Some more expensive ones claim to be both?!

Baby Bjorn is great and folds flat to store. Loads second hand and you can wash the fabrics.

TeddyIsaHe · 02/09/2018 11:37

I went both ways - had a £10 jobby that dd didn't mind at all, she would sit happily in that whilst I did laundry/cook etc but only for about 10 mins. I also had the Mamaroo which was AMAZING. If she was colicky/couldn't be settled even by a bf I'd pop her in there and she would zonk out in seconds. It's an expensive gamble though, some babies hate them. If you can afford it comfortably then I'd go for it, they have good re-sale value, I'm keeping mine for the next baby and then will sell I think.

I had this one for ds and just got it back out to use for new baby is swing but also can be locks and vibrates. Used it daily until he got too big. £80 and stayed in good condition

I got a cheap one thinking I was saving money. Baby grew out of it by 4m old and I had nowhere to put him except on the floor (wasn’t forking out for a new bouncer at that late stage). Wish I’d just bought the Baby Bjorn as he’d still be in it now.

ParkheadParadise · 02/09/2018 12:07

I had two. Baby Bjorn and a cheap one upstairs.

BigFatCurlyHeadedFuck · 02/09/2018 12:21

We have a few baby 'receptacles' Grin

The basic, old style metal legged bouncy chairs are best imho. The new style fancy pants ones are too rigid and not bouncy enough. We also had a swing but ds is now too heavy for it.

NonJeNeRegretteRien · 02/09/2018 12:27

I got the joie commuter click bouncer. DD hated it for first 4 weeks then once she was a bit older she seemed to like it a bit more.

Get a second hand one though because they’re all so bloody expensive for what they are.

My DM bought one for when we are at theirs and it’s a Bright Starts one from Smyths (but 2nd hand) which I like a lot and the activity arc is much more interesting than ours and securely clips to the chair, ours can ping off at any moment so not great!!!!

Tiny love 3 in 1 rocker napper, lies flat when they fall asleep, big enough that you can use it until you don't need one anymore and you can rock it with your foot whilst drinking tea/mumsnetting. It also vibrates and has an activity thing that lights up and plays a tune.

chloechloe · 02/09/2018 19:28

We had the Baby Björn Balance and both ours loved it. I’ve since lent it to a friend and will be looking to get another second hand as we’ve no. 3 on the way.

squadronleader87 · 02/09/2018 19:46

We had the basic Baby Bjorn one. Does nothing fancy and folds flat. The cover goes in the wash too, handy for nappy explosions.

EssentialHummus · 02/09/2018 19:57

I'm a fan of the TinyLove one PP mentioned, but the basic £10 Aldi number did DD fine. I wouldn't have spent more, having now seen a range of them at friends' houses, playclubs etc.

usernotfound0000 · 02/09/2018 20:26

We have the fisher price rainforest bouncer, DD loved it, the vibrate function was a reliable way to get her to nap! Will be reusing for this baby too.

usernotfound0000 · 02/09/2018 20:27

sorry, the woodsy bouncer not rainforest.

The Baby Bjorn Balance Bouncer is fantastic.

Ours has been used for two children and still like new.

Keep their value to for resale.

They last a lot longer than cheaper bouncers as have a long bet more supportive seat - which folds flat to store out of sight.

We had a cheaper one initially which was terrible. Then tried a friends Baby Bjorn one and bought one the next day. Blush

BlueKittens · 03/09/2018 00:04

We got two- a cheap one which was crappy and a baby bjorn which was worth its weight in gold. Using it for second baby, it’s been used by two friends in between and I intend to sell it afterwards.

OhBergine · 03/09/2018 00:23

Sorry to hijack OP, but to those who recommend the Baby Bjorn, can I ask why?

I was thinking of getting a baby bouncer for 6 week old DD who won't be put down, but thought one that vibrates might be the best idea?

Patienceofatoddler · 03/09/2018 06:59

@OhBergine I found it well made and supportive. Sometimes the simplest things are the best Blush

It has three different heights so there's a setting which is reclined and nearly lying down as well as very much sitting up.

The cover is extremely easy to remove completely to wash (I swear the little leg movement they do to bounce stimulates bowel movements haha)

It's designed to be used as a toddler seat once older -birth to around 2 years I think.

My mum bought a cheap one from a supermarket and the support it gave baby / quality was incomparable to the Baby Bjorn one.

Littlebees · 03/09/2018 09:26

I've had a look at the baby Bjorn but they look so plain and boring. I suppose they are stylish but I just do t like the look of them :/

We had a cheap for from Argos that my dad bought for around £25. It was brightly coloured with a little toy arch and had a vibrate function- dd liked it well enough and napped well in it.

I stopped using it at four months (ish) as I was getting paranoid that she’d never learn to crawl etc if she didn’t spend enough time on the floor Blush

BigBlueBubble · 03/09/2018 12:10

to those who recommend the Baby Bjorn, can I ask why?
By 4 months my baby was too big for the cheap bouncer I bought. So I basically had nowhere to put him. The Baby Bjorn is bigger and stronger and lasts longer. My baby still fits in his cousin’s Bjorn when we go to visit, so if I’d bought that instead of the cheap one I’d still be able to use it now.
