Uppababy Vista/Cruz or SC Pioneer

Hi all. I'm sure this topic has been discussed and debated before but just wanted your options on some prams.
We went to an independent pram shop yesterday and looked at several and have narrowed it down to the Uppababy Vista or the Silver Cross Pioneer. We couldn't really find fault in the Uppababy apart from it feeling quite wide but we loved all the features- the size isn't an issue as our cars are both fairly big, the carrycot seems a good shape and size, it seems easy to fold and attach/detach all the parts and it feels higher up (we are both are fairly tall so felt comfortable to us). Our lifestyle is generally walking the dog on gravel paths or around our village, coffee shops and we won't be using it on public transport. Would you agree it sounds a good choice for our lifestyle? My only concern is that it feels quite wide.
We also liked the SC Pioneer but the carrycot was narrower (we measured it!) and it seemed a bit more of a faff to collapse.
Any views or thoughts on these prams? We also want to look at the Mammas and Pappas Occaro as a comparison. Thanks!

I had exactly the same debate. Not bought yet but decided on uppababy. Just now to decide cruz or vista. Uppababy just seemed to work a bit better, folded down easier and smaller and carrycot larger so hopefully longer use or at least more comfy. Not sure how you search on here but I started a thread a while about this exact debate and got a lot of positive reviews for uppababy. But people do love silvercross too. Lots of people said they used uppababy a longer though rather than ending up buying a cheaper/smaller umbrella stroller, as many people seem to do after the first year.

I have the vista and I love it.
Can’t find any fault with it really.

NonJeNeRegretteRien · 02/09/2018 12:31

Don’t get the Pioneer. It has no suspension, drives me batty. Get something with suspension 😊

Congratulations

bobstersmum · 02/09/2018 12:35

Had a vista and nearly cried when I sold it! Best system ever and can become a double if you decide on another baby!

NoNameIdeas · 02/09/2018 12:38

We have a vista; ds is 2 at the end of the month and even though we've tried a maclaren and the g-luxe still keep coming back to it! Easy to fold, good suspension and big basket underneath. Extras are fairly expensive (snack tray etc) but are all really good quality. Would definitely recommend!

loopylou1984 · 02/09/2018 12:49

I had a vista for my twins, I LOVED it. Don't get the Cruz if your even remotely thinking of another baby as it can't become a double.

For balance the only negatives I found were:

When my babies were tiny and in the carrycots with a lot of space they did seem to be shaken around a bit if we walked on anything other than concrete.... wasn't a problem once they were in the toddler/rumble seat.

It's became extremely heavy once I had two toddlers in there and getting up kerbs was difficult.

SophieStripe · 02/09/2018 13:16

For all those that have the vista do you find it too wide and or heavy? My dilemma is buy vista now (we are planning to have another baby when this one will be 2) or buy cruz, sell cruz on when baby 2 comes. Majority of advice was to do the latter as the cruz is a bit smaller and lighter. E. G why lumber ourselves with a bigger one for two years with only one kid. Deal with needing a double when we need it! What do you think?

NoNameIdeas · 02/09/2018 13:30

When we looked the Cruz actually folded up larger than the vista. Wouldn't say it's hard pushing it at all, happily to do so one handed with a coffee 🙈

SophieStripe · 02/09/2018 13:35

Ahhh that's good to know! I need to go back and do a proper compare. It was just that the vista was wider, with bigger wheels. I have heard of friends regretting buying big prams, not being able to get them into shops etc!

Daffodil77 · 02/09/2018 18:52

We're going with the Cruz and will think about what we what for baby 2 if and when that happens. I'd rather have something smaller and lighter in the meantime. Ill be driving a lot so the weight difference was important for me. We ummed and ahhed about Cruz or visa for a while as the price difference isn't much once you allow for the carrycot. We've managed to save £100+ on the carrycot getting it in the sale. That clinched it for me.

Generally loved the uppababy ones more than anything else we looked at.

Sandinmypants · 02/09/2018 19:06

I am 4.5 years into my Uppababy ownership. I have briefly cheated on it with various others (Phil and teds and a mammas and papas stroller), but I keep coming back to my beloved Vista. It has been an absolute trooper. It’s seen both my babies through, my second one is coming up to two and it’s still going strong. We take it onto the beach regularly, through woods, on cliff walks, up and down hills. It’s also been through London, on the tube and the bus (it was slightly wide for one London bus but if you’re not using those then not an issue). The basket is AMAZING. I basically feel quite smug on a daily basis about the sheer volume of crap I can fit in it. Am I right I thinking the carrycot can be used for sleeping in? This is very handy if going away overnight. My husband and I are both tall and I find it good for our height.
I will be very sad when the time comes that we move on from it, but my goodness was it money well spent. The only cons are that it is quite big so if you spend all your time in little poky shops it might be tricky. And it can be quite heavy to lug in and out of the boot but I have always managed fine (though am tall and fairly strong).

I’m not employed by Uppababy but probably should be!

Noodles14 · 02/09/2018 22:25

Thanks all for your honest and informative reviews! Think we are sold on the Uppababy Vista. Just need to go back and check it actually fits in my boot and then look out for any deals or sales coming up on it!

@noodles14 if you find any good sales please update here! I've been set on uppababy vista since October! Started looking when first got pregnant which sadly ended in MC. But looked a lot back then and never found anywhere with any discounts! And have kept looking all through this pregnancy (since April). The price seems to be the same everywhere. We will probably buy from John Lewis for that reason as they seem to have good stock levels and a good warranty. They also do an 'exclusive' colour I really like!

SophieStripe · 02/09/2018 22:54

Oh, the one discount I have found is you can sometimes find a bit off, £60/70, by buying the 2017 version of the vista. But there are limited colours left etc. Apparently the only difference (of any particular impact) is that they have made 2018 carrycot a bit bigger so it's lasting babies longer. Some people reported their babies were outgrowing carry cot pretty quickly and this has now been solved - for most babies!

Wowthisisreal · 02/09/2018 23:19

We've also gone for the vista! We have friends who can't recommend it enough and I'm so pleased with the purchase. There is a big height difference between Hubby and I and it's was good for that. Super easy to use and fold down, nice big basket 😊

Wowthisisreal · 02/09/2018 23:20

And we got £100 off from an independent Pram Shop 👍🏻

Noodles14 · 03/09/2018 07:15

@SophieStripe we went to an independent pram shop in Southend-on-Sea in Essex at the weekend and they have 15% off until the end of September. We aren't sure whether to go and buy it there in the next few weeks or hold out until we go to the baby show at Olympia in October in the hope that they will have a deal?! By the sounds of it though, it's hard to find with a discount anywhere?!

I've always wanted a bugaboo and when the fox was released earlier this year I was convinced that would be the one for us but wanted to look at the vista as well as it had such good reviews and they seem popular (probably for good reason) We had a John Lewis nursey appointment yesterday (which I really recommend)

We were so disappointed with the bugaboos. Difficult to fold, even the lovely sales assistant had problems with it. Doing everything required two hands and whilst it was lovely to push it just didn't seem that solid. We were so impressed with the vista and that's the one we will be getting. So easy to fold, you can remove the carrycot one handed and the bassinet can be used for overnight sleeping. Great for when we visit family for the odd night in the first few months. Just need to decide on colour now!

Daffodil77 · 03/09/2018 18:14

John Lewis had an offer about 4/5 months ago giving £100 off a maxi Cosi car seat if you bought the vista.

Natural baby shower do a small discount if you buy a pushchair and car seat bundle.

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 04/09/2018 09:42

We have just bought a cruz after lots of research and recommendations from friends who love theirs.

We are in Scotland and bought from Glasgow Pram Centre who had some great deals. Also online for those further away!

voxnihili · 04/09/2018 09:52

Wimbler - that’s strange about the fox - I have it and love it although we also found shop assistants struggled as it was so new). Can do everything except the final chassis fold one handed (which probably can be done one handed). It pushes really well compared to my friend’s vista. The carrycot is also much larger.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 04/09/2018 10:54

We have a Cruz. It has done us over 3 years of sterling service and still going strong. I love love love it!

wimbler · 04/09/2018 11:57

voxnihili - the sales lady did say that with any pram there is a knack to it and you would soon get the hang of it. On reflection my earlier comment is probably a bit strong. I still love (and prefer) the way the fox looks over the vista but my husband had a much stronger preference to the vista which in a weird way made me like it more. He was like a giddy child playing with all the settings and it was really endearing to watch him be so excited about it if that makes sense.
