I have been reading a lot about hypnobirthing and have found a digital pack online from the positive birthing company. Its only £35 and seems to have quite a lot of content but i just wondered if anyone else has done this and if you would recommend? Has it helped you feel more prepared for the birth?

I have this , due in November so can't say if it helped yet, but I love it so far , definitely not airy fairy like I expected hypnobirthing to be, real facts and scientific backing, definitely helped me feel a lot calmer for my pending birth. The YouTube channel the have had some free videos and I watched these first before I decided to purchase the digital packSmile

Thanks emelsie I am due in November too! I’ll give some of the you tube videos a watch and decide from there! Good to hear others experiences with it!

I did hypnobirthing. It was bugger all use for the extremely severe pain of a breech birth. Even heroin didn’t take the edge off the pain. I can see how it might be useful for distracting yourself from mild pain though.

I did hypnobirthing.
I read the book. I listened to it every day. I did all the tasks and visualisations. I did the breathing.

I also wanted a water birth. Very little drugs. I wanted calm and control.

For the early stages of labour, this was brilliant. I barely felt any pain. I was calm. I was controlled.

And then active labour kicked in and everything went mad. It was very intense and breathing was doing fuck all for the intense contractions I was having. The birthing pool was occupied and I wanted all the drugs they could give except an epidural. I had diamorphine and gas and air (which, by the way, was a lovely combination). Really sorted me out.

My DS was born in 6 hours and out in 2 pushes.

It did not help me with my active labour at all. BUT I would say it really helped me get in the right mind frame of 'if it doesn't go to plan, that's ok'. You can plan all you want for labour but when you actually get there it can be very different from what you hope it expect. Don't fight it... just roll with it. Internal calm is best even if you are screaming on the outside like I was 😂😂

I'm currently 36+2 with my first and did the Positive Birth Company digital course about 3 weeks ago. I really liked it, as a PP said, it's not fluffy at all. If nothing else, it's made me feel really empowered - I am categorised as high risk and was really worried I would be railroaded into a cascade of interventions and would feel like a bystander. I now really need to make a point of doing the exercises...

doleritedinosaur · 02/09/2018 12:22

I didn’t do the course but I read the Mindful hypnobirthing book & followed all the exercises as well as keeping up with pregnancy yoga.

It does nothing for the the pain BUT it does put you in control. I could breathe through contractions & feel the ones that would push the baby out. I got to 8.5cm being relatively calm but I was in control & in the zone so I highly recommend it for that.
I’ve started at 10 weeks for both pregnancies.

I've done it. I'm 38 weeks with my 1st so can't say how it works but its helped make me feel ready and calm about labour and the birth and what's to come, whereas before i was definitely nervous. So imo, worth the 35 for that alone. I didn't do any other antenatal/birth prep classes tho.

I did hypnobirthing x2 in water. I went to a mindful mama workshop before each birth (at about 8 months)

The techniques worked for me but I practiced them lots and lots!

I think they definitely prepared me for calm and quiet births x

Im due in November too and am planning to buy the digital pack 😊 I feel like anything that will make me feel more calm/in control will be helpful, even if it only works for the early stages of labour!
