Can you get medication just for nausea?

I'm so nauseous all day long and even in the night guy when I can't sleep (every night now!). I'm nine weeks pregnant. I don't vomit but I have stopped brushing my teeth at night as I would vomit then.

Does anyone know if a doctor will find be any medication if you have nausea but no vomiting?

I'm going away on holiday when I'm 15 weeks and dreading it now in case I'm still nauseous. Last pregnancy I had it for five months and then again at the end.

I was given medication for nausea and vomiting.
But I was vomiting like all of the time.
Surely they would prescribe it :( it's the worst isn't it

My last 3 pregnancies I have been prescribed cyclazine, for nausea. I never vomited, but felt sick constantly.

Dalesgirl16 · 01/09/2018 16:41

Oh thank god, I can't take it anymore. I hope they give it to me. Can I take it long term? Does it go away completely?

Go to pharmacy first and try phenergan or a travel sickness tablet if you are not actually vomiting, the docs will be reluctant to prescribe anything stronger unless you are really struggling to keep food and water down. Eat bananas as well they really help because of the potassium. Morning sickness is miserable i really feel for you Thanks

nhssecretary · 01/09/2018 16:54

Sorry I disagree with phenergan
It will make you really drowsy and there are other safer options

Cylisine, prochloperazine, ondesatron

Go to the gp

Or alternatively use push Doctor

Nausea is as debilitating as vomiting if not worse

Go to the hyperemesis thread on here

Lots of different medicines
I tried 7 over one pregnancy to keep me away from constant drips

I found different medicines worked at different stages, and some not at all

I had this- the good new is that now I’m 12 weeks, it’s like someone’s flicked a switch and it’s disappeared almost over night.

I found what helped was really trying to get ahead of the nausea- as soon as you feel a wave grab something to eat, even if it’s the last thing you want to do. Nursing an empty stomach makes it so much worse. A nectarine was my grabable snack, but even a biscuit or packet or crisps will really take the edge off and will make you feel a bit more human again.

My doctor gave me nausea tablets when I was about 8 weeks. I'm a teacher and just went in and cried because I couldn't actually teach and was going to take a lot of time off work! She did say there are some low risks as with most medication but I felt I needed it. I was still ill and still took about 5 days off work in a 6 week period but I think it saved my sanity. I didn't necessarily take it everyday or even the full dose, just what I thought I needed. Hope it helps x

Cantstopworryingaboutit · 01/09/2018 18:37

It got rid of mine totally, I took it the whole way through

Dalesgirl16 · 01/09/2018 18:51

I'm going to ask for a call back from the doctor on Monday. I just eat all day to try to stave it off but it's not working and I can't afford to put on lots of weight. I drink lots of icy water too all day but it's not enough. I'm scared they won't give it to me as I'm taking hormone meds too for ivf pregnancy bug will have to see.

I was give cyclezine but it knocked me out ... so I could be off work throwing up or off work drowsy ....it did stop the sickness tho

Dalesgirl16 · 01/09/2018 20:14

I can't sleep now so would be glad to be knocked out at least at night.

Just spoke to Dr on the phone and he has prescribed me Cyclizine but he said he can't put it on a repeat prescription and I have to go back in three weeks to have a review. I'm going on holiday in five weeks so I hope they will give me some to get through the holiday!

Glad to hear you've been given something! I found the GP quite dismissive at 15 weeks (although I had nausea right from the start, the vomiting didn't kick in until the second trimester for meConfused) but I got a lot more sympathy later on! I also take cyclizine, as needed. I think it helps a bit, and my nausea has reduced, although it's still there if I forgot to eat for more than 2 hours or so
