Hi lovelies,

I have my 28week scan next week at UCLH does anyone know if I can take my 3yr old with me?

Also are these 28week scans lengthy if everything is all okay?

Tia x

What if it is bad or complicated news?

You wouldn't want to be toddler wrangling.

In my area (South Wales) no children are allowed into the scan room until the sonographer has finished the important bits, then other family members/children are allowed in at the end.

Might be worth ringing the antenatal clinic and asking what their policy is.

I would call scan department and ask.

It’s like a crèche at my hospital, people always have their other children with them for scans and appointments but obviously it varies :)

OP after my 20 week scan my scans took less time even though for one of them I had a trainee.

In regards to taking your toddler can they sit down and entertain themselves with a phone/tablet for 20 minutes?

Depends why you are having a 28 week scan and why you need to take the toddler. If it's a case of you either take the toddler or don't go then take him.

SoyDora · 01/09/2018 08:07

Depends on the hospital. Ours only allows one adult accompanying in the scan room, no children.

TinyMarie · 01/09/2018 09:17

My hospital also stipulated that I can bring one adult and no children. I would call to make sure beforehand.

Thank you for all your replies x
I'm having a 28wk scan due to high BMI. I also had this in my first pregnancy, no complications but they had to be sure so monitored every 6weeks.

I don't have to take him, it's more because he really 'wants to see baby' although not sure if he's going to be able to see much. He's really enclosed and at only 3 asking so many questions & tries to look after me so much (protecting the baby more as though we feel)

Every time we've been to the hospital I have send babies/toddlers in the waiting room

I took DD1 (then 3) to my 20 week scan with DD2 no problem, although it was nearly 8 years ago now so I don’t know if policy has changed.

I also had to take her with me when I was taken in for monitoring when I had reduced movements (it was late at night and I couldn’t get hold of anyone to babysit her).

If I was going to take mine (4 and 3) to a scan I would book a private scan. The NHS scans are medical scans and the sonographer needs to be able to concentrate

I took my toddler dd to a scan when I was of with dd2. I had my dm with me. Dd1 freaked out when the sonographer put the scanner over my belly. I had to have my dm take dd1 out as she was a distraction. I wouldn’t.

My hospital also says no children. If it’s a case of him wanting to see baby I would book a private scan they are much more personal and he will be able to have a good look
