All day heart palpitations

Along with many other unpleasant symptoms I am now having fierce thumping heart palpitations most of the day. I feel dizzy when I stand up. I'm nauseous but constantly hungry. Brain is mush. Feel low and generally useless. Only feel good when I am lying down or asleep. Think I'm 7-8 weeks pg. Have a v understanding boss, DH and 5yo DS.

How can this be normal? Please reassure me that you also felt this bad and then magically perked up in the 2nd trimester.

And are the heart palpitations just to be endured?

Could you be anaemic?

Mynameisnotthis · 31/08/2018 18:45

What are your palpitations like? Is your heart rate high?

NCPuffin · 31/08/2018 18:46

I got very dizzy/ light-headed a couple of times in the first trimester, once including sweating. It would pass quite quickly and the GP was not at all concerned. I think I might have had low blood pressure. I'm afraid I can't help you with tales of the magic second trimester, as my nausea really ramped up then. The tiredness should disappear then though! Good luck!

Both pregnancies I had a few days with lots of heart palpitations at about 7-8 weeks. I remember seeing the GP as they felt worrying but was basically told it's one of those pregnancy things. My thyroid levels were really high then too so always wondered if that was the cause. Hopefully they'll calm down very soon for you, OP

what's your heart rate?
Better have your thyroid function tests if the palpitation continues.
I used to be nauseous and dizzy and only lying down (and taking a nap) made me feel better.
Things are getting better by 12 weeks.

I've suffered with palpitations before pregnancy and I'm now 26 weeks. Around 8 weeks I had three days of continuous palpitations, every minute or so, drove me insane. They went eventually but still have flare ups. Had blood work done and my magnesium and potassium were low. Structurally my heart was fine. Definitely worth getting your bloods done, low electrolytes are easy to remedy. Feel better soon.

I have naturally v low blood pressure and my thyroid function was investigated a few years back as I had all the classic symptoms (and no anaemia) but was then told I had borderline hypothyroidism but just in the healthy range and also diagnosed with anxiety. Been on meds for that pretty much since (though recently Dr has been dropping dose with a view to taking me off) and the symptoms I had experienced had mostly eased off during this time. I did have heart palpitations back then but they stopped when my anxiety was treated. Perhaps pregnancy is triggering my anxiety again? I am feeling a bit all over the place/struggling to cope with daily life.

I suffer with anxiety, (non medicated just learnt how to cope) and have been absolutely fine up until 2 weeks ago.
I now get anxiety pains in my chest regularly, and horrendous heart palpitations. - at one point I think my heart rate was 130bpm - normal resting HR is about 70bpm.
I think pregnancy subconsciously triggers anxieties in all forms, if you’re worried see your GP to have bloods done. X

I had this at about the exact same stage. Went to my gp who did an ecg and said I was normal. When you’re pregnant your circulatory system changes to accommodate its changing needs. I would recommend popping to see the gp just so they have your symptoms on record or phone your midwife if you have seen her already. My palpitations stopped after about 10 days.

StyleOfTheTimes · 31/08/2018 21:00

Sorry forgot to put that it was my gp that said the circulatory system changes etc pregnancy brain lol

I had really bad palpitations in the first trimester. My booking bloods were good so wasn’t anaemia. I found mine worsened the busier I was and the more dehydrated I was so for example, they were always worse after a long day at work.

I would contact your GP just to be on the safe side but dizziness and palpitations are very common in early pregnancy.
