Edwards's and Patua's

Hey.
I posted a thread a few weeks ago about the same subject but just to give a bit of a brief outline- I am currently 15 weeks pregnant. We have been put at high risk for Edward's and Patau's (1 in a 100), and have today been for an amniocentesis.

Specialist said no physical abnormalities, which put her at ease. She has said we should receive our results by Thursday (so just over two days?) I am now dreading that we have made the wrong decision, and thinking about the side effects of the amniocentesis.

Would love to find out other people's experiences, anyone going through similar now to just put my mind at ease.

I'm so very sorry you are going through this. My sympathies. I lost a Pataus baby - there isn't much to say that might reassure you, only the amnio will do that. But mine died in uterus and had profound abnormalities so I think you should stick with the Doctor's encouragement about the absence of those till you know otherwise. It's as good as you can hope at this stage. I'm sure it feels like a long and terrible wait.

Mine was a very long time ago and I wouldn't have my Dear Dear D now if that hadn't happened.

Best of luck to you.

I carry a genetic condtion and my oldest son is severely disabled. I'm now pregnant with my 4th baby. We had to have a CVS test at 11 weeks in all other pregnancys with a 1 in 4 chance of passing on the condtion, so I no how you feel. It's such a difficult time. I hope it's good news for you on Thursday. X

Boule- so very sorry for loss. Thank you for commenting, trying to stay positive.
I'm glad you got your happy ending, I'm sure it doesn't help heal your pain completely, but sure your DD brightens everything for you x

LBNM19, thank you for sharing your story. Are you going for a CVS this time as well? Hope it's good news for you too, which I'm sure it will.
Thank you, I will update the thread when we find out! X

I'm 27 weeks now so already had it and it was good news again. I feel so greatful that we have gone on to have healthy children, but on the other hand always feel so awful for my oldest son and wish things could be different for him. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. X

LBNM19, oh brilliant! So glad to hear baby is healthy. I'm sure your eldest loves having their siblings around, can't imagine how challenging it's at be but wishing you all the best in the remaining few weeks of your pregnancy! X

Bethan - you are so kind and supportive. My DD is 18 so I no longer feel the loss - but of course it was very hard at the time. The doctors recommended I got pregnant again quickly as there were no genetic factors involved. So glad I did (though I was very nervous through the pregnancy).

I think you did the right thing getting the amnio after your results. I'm sure it's done no harm. Take the Doctors advice and they will really know what's best for you in these circumstances.

An Edwards or Pataus baby has no chance of survivable life (beyond a few months). The issue was taken out of my hands - nature did the right thing - but it would be terribly hard to have got to full term and given birth.

My heart is with you. Good luck. X

Good to hear.

I imagine that having your DD helped through the grieving/healing process for you.
I can only commend people who decide to go to full term with Edwards/Patau. I am currently struggling with the after effects if our baby does have either of them, and what to decide.
Hoping Thursday comes here fast!! X

Thought I would update.

Got our results pack- our baby is healthy, doesn't have any syndromes or abnormalities and found out we are having a boy!

That’s lovely news. I just read your thread while waiting for a friend to ring from hospital and it’s cheered the wait!

LBNM19 · 30/08/2018 23:43

That's brilliant news and i can imagine a huge weight had been lifted. Congratulations. Xx

MsJolly · 30/08/2018 23:43

Congratulations! We had a false positive like you and had an amniocentesis-she's a beautiful 14yr old now with nothing wrong! Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy Flowers

I had a similar experience after the 12 week scan (1:85 chance), we had CVS so similar to amnio, tummy bit sore next day but day after that I felt fine. Awful 10 days of waiting for results but like you we had a happy result! It felt like a ten tun weight had been lifted off my chest and I could actually try and enjoy the pregnancy!

For any mums going through this, it really is an awful time, sending love and thoughts.
