NHS messing me around

Sorry but need vent. I am high risk due to BMI and was told at booking all my care would be at the hospital which is fine. I went for my consultant appointment at 16 weeks who told me she didn't understand why I was being referred I explained due to BMI and she said said I had to see the community midwife not them but did book me a growth scan at 30 weeks and to see her straight afterwards.

Had scan at 19 weeks as normal at the hospital.

I then had a midwife appointment at 20 weeks with no questioning to why I was back with the community team and given MATB1 form and booked for 24 weeks.

Just came from my 24 week appointment and after turning up 20 minutes early and going past my appointment time by 30 minutes I enquired to how long it was going to be to be told that the midwife was running late. Far enough I thought but those turning up after me where all being seen. Eventually 40 minutes late I was seen and the midwife explained she wasn't running late but had been told i hadn't turned up and tried to lecture me on being on time. After confirmed I was actually 20 minutes early and had been in waiting room for an hour she went through the receptionist.

During the appointment she questioned me to why I was back as she was the midwife who did my booking appointment and had explained the high risk pathway to me. She phoned the hospital and after arguing with the consultant she booked me in for my 28 week appointment with her and anti d with the hospital.

I Just burst out crying in the room as it's all got me stressed out. Now has me questioning if there is tests or appointments I have missed due to all the messing around.

It's the consultants who have the final say on how high risk you are and any interventions you need. Even GPs defer to them the majority of the time as they are not specialists. It's unprofessional of the midwife to upset you like that, though she does have a right to confirm with the consultant you are getting the right care.

I thought as much. She didn't upset me the whole situation did as the consultants don't seen to care what happens with me.

It's not the consultants don't care it's that they have a range of woman of different risks and if your low enough risk to be under Midwife care then that's deemed best for you.

If later on your deemed higher risk for any reasons you will be slotted into consultant led care.

I was automatically put under consultant care due to a liver condition. I am 20 weeks and after my first consultant appointment moved back to Midwife led for now. (Although you still keep community midwife appointments here even if under consultant care).

It's completely normal.

I've no idea how high your BMI is but with the size of the population in the UK imagine they can't afford to put people under consultant care just for BMI with an otherwise healthy pregnancy.

Youl have a glucose tolerance test and likely extra midwife appointments / scans as require.

Try not to worry.

The consultant agreed that I need to be under her care but she gave excuses to the midwife about it not being her fault which is a load of crap as she told my partner an I a bunch of lies at the appointment with her at 16 weeks.

I have requested to change consultants and had a phone call from head of obstetrics at the hospital apologising and asking if I intend to make a complaint which I am going to decide upon when I have had a few days to think.

I am also rhesus negative and until today was told I didn't need to have anti d injections which I know is incorrect and have been battling with the hospital for an appointment for this for some time.

I know the NHS is in demand but there is no excuse to poor patient treatment. My best friend is a midwife at the hospital I attend and she is disgusted the way I been treated by the hospital. The community midwife has been great and if it wasn't for her actions today I would still be refused the anti d appointment
