Heart rate too high?

Don't judge me but I bought a Doppler after I fell over last week just so I could calm myself down. Clearly not worked as I'm just stressing over new things but there we are.

Basically the heart rate has been high every time I've checked. So between 150-160 and today it went over 160 a bit. would you be concerned about that or are dopplers not the most reliable thing?

They're not meant to be used by untrained people for this very reason. Midwives do more than just find the heartbeat, they also listen to the rhythm and rate etc. Babies' heart rates do occasionally go up if they're having an active period, but please just throw the Doppler away. They do more harm than good.

Yeah I know. Drip for buying it I was just in panic mode at the time

I don't know how many weeks you are but in my last pregnancy the heart rate was always between 150 and 160 and she was absolutely fine, just a very active baby.

Sandstormbrewing · 28/08/2018 12:21

No one on here can tell you if it's ok or not, because we haven't a clue what you are hearing - could be the placenta blood flow, could be the baby, could be body sounds. If you are worried then see your midwife.

But please throw the doppler away.

ProseccoPoppy · 28/08/2018 12:24

Chuck the Doppler and call either your midwife or hospital. If you are at all worried they would rather speak to you, and will happily check you over. (I say that having been in and out of hospital for monitoring over the last month of my last pregnancy, much of that for reduced movements and haywire heartbeat).

How many weeks pregnant are you OP? If home Dopplers are available to buy mums will buy them; pregnancy is such a stressful time! So no judgment OP....

However at the maternity unit where I work we will always see women to listen in to the heart rate after a fall and after 26 weeks we would do a ctg trace which looks at the overall heart rate pattern over 30-40 minutes and is much more reliable than a 'listen in'

I cannot emphasise enough if you are ever worried about your baby especiallly movements please just call your maternity unit and get them to see you....leave the stress to us Brew

I'm almost 16 weeks. I did get seen after the fall because I'm rhesus neg and had to have the jab and they said then the heart rate was fine.

In all honesty I'm the biggest stress head about this because I got pregnant during chemotherapy, it's my first and I'm just waiting for things to go wrong. They told me I'd likely be infertile and I even had eggs frozen so it's been everything unexpected. They can tell me things are fine constantly and I'll still worry.

At my 16 week midwife appointment she checked the heartbeat. It was 155 bpm and the midwife was happy with that.

Wow OP you must have been going through so much stress and worry even before you got pregnant...for what it’s worth your baby’s heart rate sounds totally normal for 16 weeks, hope you are getting the support you need, if you haven’t already made contact with them already there is a brilliant charity called Mummy’s Star that could offer more support...hopefully once you’ve had your anomaly scan and that’s been okay you will worry less, take care and look after yourself Flowers

MagicalCreatures · 28/08/2018 23:24

Hi OP
My babies heart rate reached 183 at 10 weeks and now when I listen in at 21 weeks it ranges from 145-160. I went to hospital last week due to a bleed and the nurses were happy with that rate x

minilemonade · 29/08/2018 10:28

Yeah gardeningischeaperthantherapy I've been in touch with mummy's star. They're helpful but I'm like the reverse scenario of everyone else. They all found out about cancer during pregnancy and I was going through chemo and found out I was pregnant so it's still a very different experience. I'm really happy about it and trying to calm myself down. My bloods and everything came back fine so I'm low risk in that sense but I had my first MRI scan since stopping chemo last week and results are next week so I'll know whether I have to keep on with the chemo during pregnancy. I think once I know that I'll be a lot calmer
