Over weight homebirth?

Anyone got any experience with being overweight/high BMI and having a successful homebirth? It's my first baby so of course I have all the natural worries that come with the unknown, but I'd really like a homebirth....

I know my docs/midwives are going to say because I have a high BMI this is not a good idea, so far I don't have any other problems that come associated with high BMI such as gestational diabetes or preeclampsia.

Any stories would be much appreciated x

Ok, so I’m not over weight but the baby is large and I’m still planning on a home birth. If you go to the Aims website it will outlay that you have every right to give birth at home. I can’t see why being healthy but overweight would be an issue.
I have borderline line gestational diabetes but I’m monitoring with sugar kit and still plan on giving birth at home.

It depends how high your BMI is and whether you have any other risk factors. Midwives are generally pretty keen on promoting homebirth so have a chat with yours and you may well find they are more supportive than you expect.

As PP said you are perfectly within your rights to have one but it is sensible to consider what the risks are before so that you can make an informed decision and the best person to help you with this is your midwife who knows your case.

That's what I was thinking, otherwise healthy but high BMI surely means the same sort of risks as anyone else. So far with the midwives, I've felt quite negative vibes such as oh you can't have a birthing centre birth coz of your BMI etc.
