Has anyone had success with homeopathy for morning sickness?

OK, so I've never exactly been a believer in homeopathy before but right now will try anything. One of my friends reckoned it really helped her...namely something called Sepia 30c. I thought Id just pop a question on here to see if anyone else has any experience or thoughts...?

You know homeopathy is just water?

RatHammock · 27/08/2018 15:25

Nobody has ever had any success with homeopathy for anything whatsoever.

butterwithtoast · 27/08/2018 15:27

Well, if you believe in it enough it might work. And it is just water so it can't do any harm.

BeautifulPossibilities · 27/08/2018 15:27

No it's nonsense. If you are really suffering see your doctor.

HellonHeels · 27/08/2018 15:28

Rationally I know it cannot work and there is no evidence for it working.

Anecdotally I used a homeopathic remedy for something else, on the basis that it would do no harm and my experience was that it helped.

So, you are sick and feeling desperate, it won't harm you or the baby, I would try it.

No because it contains no active ingredients at all. If it appears to work for some symptoms, it’s simply a placebo effect.

When used to ‘treat’ more serious conditions, it can be actively dangerous because users can avoid seeking proper medical treatment thinking they are using a legitimate alternative. Please don’t waste your time and money, or seek to use it during your pregnancy or for your baby.

However there are approved medications for pregnancy sickness, have a look at the NICE guidelines and talk to your GP.

Hope you feel better quickly Flowers

gassylady · 27/08/2018 15:32

What they (almost) all said - it’s very expensive water. Why would that work??! Go and see your GP instead

bellinisurge · 27/08/2018 15:33

Homeopathy is bollocks. Utter bollocks. This is not a "placebo effect situation. I use wrist bands for travel nausea and they did NOTHING for my morning sickness which was so bad I ended up in hospital.

dellabrew · 27/08/2018 15:45

Thanks all Grin ...all kinda what I thought previously but im just so desperate! Good to know about the wrist bands too, you see these kind of things raved about on various websites but it is so often just fake advertising not genuine reviews. I think I will have to book an appointment with my doc, but the service at our local surgery is so appalling you are seriously lucky if you get seen within 2 weeks...and I need something sooner! ah well. I dont think I have HG so not life threatening ...just try and bear with it for the next week or so Hmm

Don’t be ridiculous RatHammock, loads of people have had success with homeopathy. Off-the-peg homeopathy is a reasonably cheap, harmless placebo with lots of cuddly wooo attached to it - of course it works well for some people with some conditions. (Obviously not harmless if it prevents you seeking medical advice for something dangerous though).

However in the OP’s situation I’d stick to ginger purée (from a jar in Asian food shops) and honey in hot water which is cheaper and tastier and can be used to cook things later if it doesn’t work. Make the GP appointment now and cancel it later if things improve. Good luck.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 27/08/2018 15:55

It's not just water!!!!!!

Sometimes there's a little pill of sugar too.

The best cure for morning sickness I found was moaning to all and sundry about it until the start of Week 14 and then it disappeared overnight.

SinkGirl · 27/08/2018 16:00

I was prescribed promethazine by my doctor. It’s been in use for morning sickness and pregnancy related nausea for decades.

You can actually purchase it from pharmacies (usually under the brand Phenergan for travel sickness / insomnia). I suspect you’re supposed to see a doctor before taking it in pregnancy but you could always ask a pharmacist if they have anything you could take.

I know what it’s like to be at a practice like that - I would call reception first thing tomorrow, say you’re utterly desperate, ask if they can give you a phone appointment just to sort out a prescription.

Small amounts of baked potato and DRY carbs (not toast, which is awful to vomit, or pasta-too wet).
Take it from a past master.

Nothisispatrick · 27/08/2018 17:09

Yes I did, and with indigestion. But you will not have any luck asking about homeopathy on MN.

gassylady · 28/08/2018 17:04

Please google homeopathy suicide stunt or protest it will tell you all you need to know about the power of homeopathy
